Sandy701's Journal, 29 Mar 12

Walked 3.1 miles this AM....2 miles with both dogs and then the rest with just my Collie guy. The temperature was just over 70 degrees but it was humid and not much of a breeze. My Lab gal was panting pretty heavily, so I thought it best not to take her much further.

Today (date-wise) marks 2 years on this new WOE of mine with 80 pounds gone. Monday was my 2-year anniversary, going by day-of-the-week in the month. I've been as low as 83 pounds gone, but 3 of those pounds apparently weren't ready to leave for good. Overall, that's over 3/4 of a pound a week in loss for each of those 104 weeks, although it has NOT come off in that nice, linear fashion!!

I'm quite thankful that I didn't focus on how long this would take when I began, or I believe I would have never taken the first steps. TWO YEARS sounds almost insurmountable when one begins! (Lately, these last 10 pounds seem almost insurmountable! LOL!)

Anyway, this extended time period has given me time to settle in to this new WOE so that situations that would derail me aren't so ominous anymore. I'm not saying I don't get tempted by some foods or situations....just that I've been through a few now and each time I can successfully get by one of them makes the next "test" all that much easier.

What I HAVE learned, for me, is that I CANNOT go off plan very often!! So many journal entries here on site remind me of my unsuccessful attempts to do this previously....people having all sorts of off-plan foods for one reason/occasion or another, promising that it's just that one time and then they'll be back on plan on Monday (or next week, or whatever). I'm sure we've all seen those entries come up over and over again.

Well, I'm here to say that that doesn't work for me.....been there, done that, and got the t-shirt that wouldn't fit anymore! This time around, I went MONTHS before eating anything off-plan. Even on this trip, everything was Atkins-friendly except for when the Wendy's guy gave us the wrong salad! I knew I could take it back and ask him to change it out for me, but opted not to do so. I ended up eating some pecans that tasted like they had sugar on them and some Craisins that I couldn't pick out, but it was a pretty small "problem" in a day of otherwise completely on-plan eating.

We had another issue at breakfast at Cracker Barrel on the way home. They have a couple Atkins-friendly entrees (!!) that include reduced-carb bread and sugar-free or reduced-sugar preserves. (Basically, the entrees are eggs, meat, and tomatoes, all at about 4 NC with the low-carb bread adding 8 NC.) When the plate came, I realized the preserves were the regular kind, so used the butter instead. I decided to try the bread since it was reduced carb and it seemed to be OK for me....didn't feel any after-effects and didn't fall asleep after the meal! While I'm not anywhere near legumes/grains on the Carb Ladder, it was an interesting experiment.

YAHOO!!! I am so proud of you. 2 years, that is fabulous, congrats girlfriend.:) I'm with you an thinking back to how long it would take. Now, I am thankful that my blood sugar is under control and that I'm feeling good. I also know what you mean about going off plan for even the shortest period of time(a day). That is too much for me. I end up with tummy troubles amongst other horrible things. I guess we are just carb intolerant and that's the lifestill we will have for the rest of our lives. Oh well, that's life at least for me. Glad you experiment went well for you without the miserable side affects. Enjoy the rest of your day and be happy.:):)

Laurie, I wish your weight history would show your entire journey for others to see, because it's amazing! The fact you've lost so much and have kept it off is a great example to me, and others! Have a great (warmer!!) day!

Bren....all my buddies are just the best. I KNOW there's no way I could be where I am without all of you on this site. Although I didn't find this site until after Induction (in June of 2010), I'm so very thankful I did find it. Your own coffee salutes just make my days.....as do your paintings and photos you rotate as avatars. Thanks for all your support! Have a positively MAH-velous day!

Wow! 80 lbs gone :) and STILL gone, that is something to be truly proud of, no matter how long the journey! As for the rest it will happen for in time, I'm sure of it! You are so diligent, and such a great role model! I am very proud of you. I completely get the off plan, been there done that have the ill fitting shirt/pants as a reminder lol I guess there are those of us that just have ZERO tolerance for the carbs. I have discovered recently that I have almost no tolerance for artificial sweeteners too. It sucks to never be able to have anything that even tastes sweet, without repercussions. But maybe I'll experiment with alternatives at a later date :) You are fantastic woman! Keep it up :)And celebrate your success!

Thanks Jenni. Just when I'm getting frustrated over these last 10, this anniversary rolls around and helps to keep things in perspective. I'm also experimenting with reducing artificial sweeteners....not ready to cut them out completely, but have made a significant reduction with not drinking as many diet sodas. We'll see how that goes. What I can tell you is that after dropping my consumption by half and replacing it with iced tea and lemon sweetened with some Truvia, well, that Diet Coke is already tasting almost overly sweet to me now. I'm thinking eventually, the sweet things won't have as much appeal because they'll be too sweet for us!

My girl, you are simply amazing! Many times more an inspiration to so many, as well as to myself. Finding FS was key for me & still is, over a year later! People like you have made this an amazing adventure that I still enjoy everyday. Your strength of perserverance is just one of the things I truly admire about you. I so hear you about the last 10, but to be honest, while I was at it...EACH 10 seemed impossible at the time, however looking back at it, they seemed so much easier, but I know they weren't! Sticking to the nut free thing is easier said than done too. Yesterday always seems easier than today & tomorrow...well, let's just do today, but let's do it well! Smile, be happy, I am Happy Dancing for you...La de dah dah da!!! Now it's your turn!

Happy anniversary! There are a lot of people who come on here and don't last 2 weeks - let alone 2 years. Wishing you all the best in the coming year! And thanks for sharing your vacation's "food adventures". BTW - did you see all the responses you had on your last entry? Think you struck a nerve.
