Ingria's Journal, 29 Feb 12

OK, so I make a promise to myself, never ever again. I will never ever knowingly eat wheat or gluten in measurable quantities unless that is the only food available and I am starving otherwise. I heard so many comments from a lot of people including several doctors that I am just following a fashionable fad diet (though I noticed I had problems with wheat and started asking questions long before public knew about all this gluten staff). I heard exactly same comments 30 years ago about milk, with one doctor actually prescribing large quantities of warm milk to treat my gastrointestinal symptoms. Turned out I was lactose intolerant.

Now I went to this stupid crepe party on Saturday at which absolutely nothing but crepes was served. The hostess knew about my problem, and still insisted that I would be OK eating crepes as this is nothing but my imagination and I sure do not want to ruin her well thought through and fashionable party. It was a 3 hours sit down dinner. I could not just sit for 3 hours at the table explaining why I am not eating anything to a bunch of strangers. Now I am all swollen for the 4th day in a row. And I do not know when I will be able to get it out of my system.

What makes me feel real bad, is that people assume that I am just following a fad diet, and they would say, oh, look at you, you did not lose any weight by not eating wheat, why even do it. And it has nothing to do with weight loss, I am allergic to it. I wish it did not become a fad diet.

OK, now I at least got my anger out of my system, but I will never do it again, no matter what other people think.

When did respect fall out of fashion. It was very disrespectful of the hostess to make you feel bad and only offer things you told her you are trying to avoid. It does not matter if it is a fad, or a medical condition she should respect you enough to at least offer something else that you would be able to have. A salad for example would have been easy for her to throw together. When I host parties I always ask those invited if they have any sensitivities that I need to be careful about. Stick to your guns because only you know how your body reacts to different things. Hope you have a GREAT day and an even better weekend
