Diana 1234's Journal, 23 Apr 24

I went to the cardiologist today to address the dizziness issue. My regular cardiologist is retiring so they referred me to a new one in the office. Turns out besides the obvious low blood pressure which I've always had, turns out I'm pretty dehydrated. He suggested I try to drink 2-3 more bottles of water, try sugar free electrolyte drinks if I like them. I do not so I'll stick to water. He said to increase my salt intake and if not better in 2 weeks I can try salt tablets. Dr thinks since I work out pretty hard and eat pretty healthy I may be unintentionally depriving myself of salt and also I may be sweating it out. It's amazing something so simple could wreak such havoc! He was pretty knowledgeable and I liked him.
He talked to me about the importance of weightlifting and how it relates to the heart, especially in older women. He also said balance is important and I should continue to do some cardio as well. He was pleased with 4 days of lifting and 2 cardio days. Or I can do 5 days of lifting, 1 day of full cardio, and sprinkle cardio in before lifting. I will probably do the 2nd suggestion. He reiterated the need to not use bar while doing chest exercises but instead use dumbbells. He is concerned about bar falling on my chest if I lift too heavy. That would be catastrophic for pacemaker.

Last year I had the same problem. After visiting my doctor I added mineral water in my diet. Now I don’t have any issues.

Super, I find carbohydrates and water hing super interesting! I eat about 100 grams of carbs a day on a regular basis. I'm gonna research this further. Thanks!

Sveta, glad you are ok! I'll check into mineral water Thx😀 Windy and wifey, Thanks! I feel fortunate that it was something relatively easy.🩷. Alilyadahlia, I live in the desert so we really need to stay hydrated. Glad you increased your intake! It is so important! 😀. Sherrye, I'm glad too. Hopefully it's an easy fix 💜

Oh gosh! Diana - I struggle with dizziness at the gym and my blood pressure can really low too. I found last fall this product call LMT and I love the Citrus Salt flavor. I actually crave them sometimes because I also need the salt. My husband tasted it and thought it was awful but he doesn't have the same problem I have. Check it out becasue it was a game changer for me at the gym.

Speaking of salt Celtic salt is suppose to be the superior one isn’t it? I’ve seen bits n pieces of the info but haven’t really dug into it

watch you tube channel Dr Berg's vids on the importants of electrolyes. electrolyes = magnesium, potassium, and salt (get tested also for magnesium & potassium levels). Take care

Jjbbee, I did get blood work and an urinalysis done. I'll have to check numbers on those. I'll check out Dr Berg. I've seen that other FS members have mentioned him in the past for various things. Thx😀. RPL, I tried to look that up but it came up as a name of a company. What exactly is it? 🩷

if you want good clean electrolytes you can drop into your water or add to food, check out Keto Chow electrolytes. you can add as you like, so you don't have to taste them.
I think you can get it on Amazon too. https://drinklmnt.com/

I like your doctor's suggestions. I have similar low BP and dizziness. Also, I'm type 2 diabetic and 70 years old. My low BP is with exertion, so I take Fludrocortizone on days that I do yardwork. If I don't take it, my BP gets down to 77/44. With it, BP sticks around 90/50 wih yard work. On the sofa, 126/76. Today is a yard day, so I'm taking the pill.

Jdode, Ahhh..so you know that fuzzy/ dizzy feeling as well..My normal BP is around 90/60 ish. I will sometimes go into the 100s on top but not normally. 75 is a pretty low number. Be careful!💜. RPL, Ill check it out, thx🩷. Jackie, thanks for the tip! 😀

Salt tabs make me yack. I use light salt which has sodium and potassium and make my own salt shot for the morning. Sometimes I do another in the afternoon. I drink plain water during the day. I got real sick of saltwater! Hopefully you will find a balance! I'm low BP too.

Hubby and I are fairly active and mildly to moderately dehydrated much of the time. He got 1000cc of saline IV on Friday. When I went low carb and got in 15000 steps a day I had to eat more salt which every one thought was weird.

Jenjabba and Morticia,, I used extra salt last night, not a lot but because I don't use much salt, my food tastes over salted. My husband said I could have put more on it...I think this is gonna take some time to get used to. 🥴

I don’t really like much salt in my food either. Although I will put it on tomato slices these days. Just weird, I guess.
