15wks 4days: was really busy and missed weightlifting. The garage opener gave up the ghost so missed therapy having to hunt down a new one, plus we ordered a new deep fleezer since the fridge in the garage from the 80s is failing. First time EVER: the kids spent the night with nonna. For those who dont understand why this is a big deal: my mom is toxic and we kicked her out when she lived with us cuz we were starving and suffering and she'd brag how shes going out to eat while im scraping together meals for a fam of 4. she didn't think she ever needed to help us, housewise or financially, especially amid the fact i couldnt walk that year. Since 2021, Donnie, my spouse, got 2 promotions and 2 state raises and we havent struggled since buying this house and my recovery. Mia mamma and I have been on ok terms, but we only hear from her during the holidays. Ever since i was 13 and she left, i called her the "holiday parent". 15-19 i didnt hear from her at all until papou mou(greek for my grampa) died. She wanted money from the inheritance. Anyhooo.... i was kinda filled with anxiety in case she got too drunk with them. i told my oldest to text or call me, if she does. Thankfully it went ok... It makes me really happy to hear when daughters have a fantastic relationship with their mothers. Never, have i had that. As a teen, I had a better relationship with our golden retriever then her... I will be walking on the treadmill when i can get my boys to settle down enough to be able to be on my own for a moment. I hate ADHD time blindness- couldn't do anything else until the boys were home... now i cant do anything else until they are ready to play by themselves lol. Having ADHD is like a perpetual state of procrastination..

Sad. Glad you’re making peace with the past. Sounds like you’ve got a nice little family. Congratulations!

I now have a d.i.l and her daughter who both deal with ADHD and see how challenging it can be in everyday life. Together, we all in the family are working on ways to let the blended, 3-generations under this roof support [and tolerate ;-)] each others' foibles. FOOD is one of the contributing factors in their struggles and we're working on addressing that, finding things that are palatable but non-disruptive. Quite a trick, sure takes mindful planning especially for the middle-schooler who is a picky eater with 'texture' issues in food. But so worth it.

Gopher, yes my son is ADHD and autistic too. Textures are more of an issue for me. My son struggles with trying new foods.

DAZeY, for sure we've seen differences--positive and negative on mood, physical comfort (gut), and anxiety levels all depending on what was consumed during the 24 hours. 'Chemical' food additives: some colorings, some preservatives. I'm experimenting with recipes for homemade 'snack' food a kid can grab after school that is safe for her to eat. The family dogs enjoy my 'fails' as safe treats.

Sure, food exacerbates symptoms that pre-exist. Plus ADHD kids love quick dopamine fixes are are prone to consuming sugar-ier food. Even when i was completely low carb and comsumed very little sugar in my prime as a competitive boxer, i still struggled with adhd, to top it off i had no clue of my diagnosis at the time. The guilt and shame that i was struggling and felt different then everyone else haunted me. At least i understand why now.

Dazey, it was a big relief to both mother and child to finally get a diagnosis so they could work on specific choices and techniques for coping. And finding a couple good friends at school who share the struggle shored up the child's self-esteem and confidence.
