Big Boy Optimus's Journal, 03 Dec 15

I was out shopping at Foodlover's Market today and soon as I entered I saw a special on 3 trays of Peaches for R20! Needless to say I got myself 3 trays which is 9 Peaches per tray.

I made a snack now with Peaches, Granny Smith Apples, High Fat Double Cream Yoghurt and chopped peanuts. Tastes so yummy! Could be a snack or a meal. My bowl of this snack came to 430 calories because I used big servings of the yoghurt but you can scale it down to under 250 calories by adjusting quantities of ingredients. Healthy and really yummy!!! You can't go wrong with fruit and yoghurt as your healthier alternative to a commercial chocolate bar.

That looks tasty. I'll have to try that. I'll swap out the peanuts for almonds so I don't die. :)

How is the quality of Food Lovers' fruit? I've bought from their branch in Noordhoek before and 3 days later the fruit started going off. I'm now a bit skeptical buying fruit and veg from them. Only buy my cheese from them because they always have the best prices!

The climate issues has had a negative impact on fruit/veg from most of their suppliers. I've found that some things are top quality and some are lower in quality but you have to go to their store to browse whatever is in stock. I buy my granny smith apples from them and sometimes they are top quality and sometimes they are not as good as the previous purchase but I like that I can pick each apple individually so if the quality is bad on that day then I just go back another day. Keep fruit and veg in the fridge to make them last longer. When you buy bananas don't choose all ripe ones if you wont eat them all on the day so rather buy them half ripe(yellow with some green color on them) and they will ripen on their own at your home but will last you longer than just a few days. They are cheaper than other places because of the volume they buy and they have nice specials when they need to clear stock so you can score some bargains. If something is cheap but doesn't look good, don't buy it. I learnt that the hard way! lol

How do you add the photo?
08 Dec 15 by member: Debra Holmes
Debra Holmes you must upload the pic to a host like tinypic.com then take the link of the pic after it is uploaded and paste it in your journal entry here. Choose the size of the pic to be "message board" then once it uploads there it will show you a link starting with "[img]". Copy that whole line of text and paste it in your journal entry and the pic will show.

Yum! Thanks - I craved peaches while I was pregnant with my daughter and now she is the healthiest child. I will add a teaspoon of honey to your recipe when I try it! :-)

Ziensie I am sure that honey will make it taste even yummier! Experiment with other low calorie fruits like strawberries, pomegranate, kiwi fruit, etc. To be honest, I enjoy eating this way more than eating a chocolate. The peanuts just compliment the entire flavor and I sometimes add 20g raw jungle oats to it so it tastes like u are eating a commercial energy bar. I think we have become a population of consumption by convenience and the effort of making snack/meal like this prevents many from doing so therefore they opt to buy something "healthy" that is ready-to-eat.
