writingwyo's Journal, 12 Feb 24

12th ski, 3.5 hours, 7.77 miles, nearly 70 miles for the season. Saw critter tracks that might have been moose, which was unnerving. A woman was attacked by a moose up there recently. Don't want "stomped by moose while skiing" in my obituary

Morticia -- exactly! 😳

After the moose flattens me, I might not look so skinny, YOH 🤣 Wouldn't really call myself skinny, anyway, TBH. A reasonable weight, and I can live with that. I like food too much to ever be truly skinny 😉

Another Wyoming thing to add to my romanticism of the state...

So you live by the moose but you don't want to die by the moose?

JB -- I'm not sure how romantic it is to get stomped on by a half-ton of pissed-off deer 🤣 (They're the largest in the deer family.) FatD -- no, indeedy, I do not want to die by the moose! I enjoy this whole "breathing" thing. We see them up there reasonably often, and our general reaction is to leave the vicinity as quickly as possible 😳

But they’re just big dumb snow puppies… hardly. Hate that people think they can treat them that way. All I needed was to see one standing near our car as a kid. They are huge. Big impression. Glad you just move away.

Katsolo -- typically when there's a bad wildlife encounter it's human stupidity, but this poor woman was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. She was hiking on an established trail and didn't even see the moose until a second before it went after her. They're huge, but blend in amazingly well. I spooked one once that I never saw, but my husband did. He said I was way too close, but I didn't even know it was there. I was fortunate that time that it ran off rather than attacked

Love all the beautiful snowy pictures you've been posting lately absolutely gorgeous... I love snow! I find most people just don't notice things honestly you be amazed by all the people that absolutely just don't notice me at work. I'm 5 ft 8, I have very blonde hair, I have very pale skin, and I always announce myself before... coming upon a person but I scare the death out of these big tall working men constantly ,🤔🧐🤷 and I mean that like terrify them and they're not playing! I make more grown men jump more than any other person I know and all I say is excuse me or hello to let them know that I'm right beside them or behind them so they don't step on me when I have a tray of food It's the funniest thing it's really quite amusing to watch. So I'm really not surprised that people don't notice that animal blending in its natural habitat like a black cat blending on a dark surface. Lol 😆

Leah -- glad you've enjoyed the pics. 😊 I have to confess, I'm not always the world's most observant person. Maybe you and the moose can play hide and seek in the woods 😂

I don't know from what I've seen from Nature documentaries I'll be better off with predators than I would with a moose. 🙅🏃 I think I'll just stick to the normal animals in my neck of woods 🐺 🦌 🦇 and let the moose hangout the moose folk ⛷️ 🏂😉. I have seen them in nature preserves so they are huge you don't really realize how huge until you're close up to one though. I know that sounds really silly to say but it's true they are so so big! 😳

That's one of the really awesome things about Nature documentaries I may never get to go see a lot of the animals in their natural habitats but I love watching these animals. Now most of my life I lived in Tennessee so I got to see a lot of really cool animals and nature preserves and then Woodland preserves and then of course the Knoxville zoo and both aquariums as well. And in my youth my father was very sweet and took me to several aquariums and zoos while he was still with us. So over the course of my youth I've actually had lots of opportunities to witness the glories of nature and the splenders where within. In addition to growing up on 80 acres a farmland on a dirt road deep in the woods which of course provided lots of opportunities to view nature.
