So, after massive research, I have come to some conclusions......
First, I am NOT going to try to reach a size 4, at least not deliberately.
According to multiple health sources, including webMD, anything below a 28" waist for me would be considered "underweight" and unhealthy, even though my BMI would probably still fall in the "normal" category.
I am not a small boned woman.
So, probably, a healthy goal for me is a size 6.
I found massive discrepancies in what constitutes "ideal body weight" for someone of my height and bone structure.

Anyone else have trouble with this?

How long have you been at/around your current weight? That is, taking in a normal amount of calories for your desired weight. I would say, once you are in that zone for a good amount of time your body fat will even out across your frame. This is what I have been told. Until then, avoid cornering yourself into a size. Generally I try to gauge my goal weight through my body fat %, rather than BMI. BMI is an inaccurate measurement of health for people who are either muscular or have bigger bones.

I wonder how useful it is to base a goal on clothing size, just because women's sizes vary so much between manufacturers. I think if you set measurement goals instead (like a 28" waist), you can more easily mark your progress no matter what is going on with your clothes... I feel like the clothes thing just adds another layer that could be unnecessarily frustrating or discouraging. But if going for a size 6 is what motivates you then go for it! Just don't get too stuck on it, if it turns out that your body "wants" to stay at another size.

I have flashbacks to 130 but it's unrealistic for me. I felt good at 164. Due to a problem or two I gained and now up to 180. Goal is 165 and that will make my heart happy and my jeans will fit comfortably.

My daughter has a 26" waist..she is a 4, and is too small, and I have a larger frame than she does, so that's what I'm basing it off of. My body fat is now around 26.7%, which is not high, and I'm thinking I'd like to be between 21-23%.

I think a size 4 on a 5'10" woman would look too skinny (meaning you could probably see the ribcage & vertebrae in back). But if you're 5'6" or under, a size 4 is desirable. It really all is affected by your height and how muscular you'll be at that point. I'm down to a size 6 now, and I look normal, not thin, at 5'5". I'd play it by ear.

Standard BMI tables don't work for many people. Go with what you know is right and comfortable for you.

I am the poster girl for "large frame"........I dont want to look like a heroin addict..I want to look healthy. Too thin is JUST as unhealthy as too fat........I dont want to trade health issues from obesity in for health issues from being too thin. I am vain only to a point....my health is the reason I started this and health is my main concern now.

If i go below 140, I look like a concentration camp survivor. It's not pretty.
