I'm a bit disappointed with my husband. I had thought he was trying to lose weight, and for most days I think he tries. In the evening he snacks, grazing is more like it. Just nibbling on food from 7pm until he comes to bed at 1am. I have gotten used to it. What disappoints me is when I find a shopping receipt with candy bars or ice cream sundae or donuts on it. The last one had 2 Terry's chocolate oranges, they never made it into the house. Anyway, it's unmotivating to me to try to help him.

It’s not your responsibility. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, you can’t control other people’s actions. I think the best you can do is tell him what you noticed and how you feel, ask him if there’s anything you can do to help him, and then let him come to you. If he doesn’t that’s his choice. I hope you feel better soon.

I have done everything I can to help him. I think it's Time for me to let him be and see how he does on his own.

For a long time my wife and I seemed to be switching back and forth, but often on opposite sides of our fitness journey. It was frustrating for me when I was on and she wasn’t. I’m sure it was equally frustrating for her when she was on and I wasn’t. What we found best was to really double down when we were both “on”, but just be content with being a good example when one of us was “off”. Motivation, consistency, and a complete change of habits is difficult. Kind of like quitting smoking…sometimes it takes many restarts before it sticks. Patience and empathy are critical in these situations, in my opinion. 😎

Hi. Just a comment from a 67-year-old grumpy old man. I am finished trying to help other adults who don't want to help themselves. It just leads to frustration on both sides. I'm happy I finally found the time to care for myself. I will content myself with my newly found feeling of wellness and by setting a good example.

Thanks everyone 🙂 I'm going to keep working on myself and making healthy meals for us. The rest is up to him.

If he doesn't want to make healthier choices, that's on him, he's a grown man and you are not responsible for monitoring his diet.

my husband isn't trying to lose weight but I find him frustrating none the less 🙄 he doesn't comprehend the idea of having a little treat, he prefers to buy junk in bulk because it's cheap and convenient when he wants something sweet, but me n my binge eating habits will find it in the kitchen and eat it all.. so there really is no saving it for later, yet he continues.. 🤔 sometimes I want to punch him in his dumb face 😏

Marianne, I totally understand. My husband knows not to bring junk food home. So he hides it in his desk, thinking I won't notice when he eats it late at night. But I can hear him chomping away. I just tell myself that it's his choice to be fat. If he wants to carry that extra 100 lbs, so be it. I'm not going to let it bother me. I'm going to keep doing my diet. We have to be strong and take care of us first.
