Actually the shelf life thing is a myth. If kept in consistent conditions and out of direct sunlight they can last for many years. The one issue is that some notes are more volatile than others, citrus notes can fade out over time, but the scent they are blended in will still be good, just lacking the depth. Another thing that happens is reformulations. This is when fragrance ingredients/chemicals get banned or the scent contents are changed to save money. Le Malle today is very different than vintage Le Malle in terms of intensity, but still delivers the core of the profile. I have scent memories attached to my Father and Grand Father, powerful stuff really.

$elf, it was a very popular scent and changed the direction of men's fragrances moving forward. Just like Aqua Di Goa and CK One. Fragrances stopped being super punchy and full of male bravado AKA BRUT and even Drakkar Noire. :)

Armani Aqua Di Gio - my first bf, can still spot that scent out in a packed room. For better or worse haha

Over the years I have gotten pretty good at identifying fragrancs. People I work with are often surprised I can identify them by name, however, most people wear the mainstream items. That is why it's advised for guys to avoid the "scent memory" profiles of popular scents because what partner wants to think of an ex every time they smell it...Looking at you Dior Sauvage.

Hahaha I’m laughing out loud because you are so accurate. I probably will never date someone who wears Swiss Army (forget the name of the actual cologne), it’s like I developed an aversion to it based on horrible past experiences! 🤪

I lost all interest in scents before I ever reached my teens… our generation (the 60’s) introduced something called Brut for men and it was all the rage. Probably the first real ad campaign that I was ever exposed to and you couldn’t get away from it. I can’t remember the jingle, but I can still see the ads and the bottle designs. Everybody and their brother were wearing it and it made me sick… I never recovered hahaha :) DV

I like BRUT and Hai Karate, it's a scent memory thing, but its definitely not for everyone, and that applies to all fragrances.
