AuntieJan's Journal, 10 Jul 11

Well I finally am able to sit down and reflect on the events of the day. It was such an awesome day on so many levels. I do not plan to go to the gym tomorrow, I need to rest. Anyone taking the time to peruse my activity calendar lately can get a pretty good idea of why I am so tired. LOL!

So....... I have been thinking about how to share the experiences of a project that has consumed my life for the last six weeks. There is so much to relate, and I want to have others be able to understand the joy, the dignity, and the continuing restoration of my body, mind and spirit that the Nomad project and church as a whole has blessed me with.

There is so much to tell! In order to give the subject its due I must break it down into smaller pieces. I'll share a little piece of it each day I journal.

First, as promised, is the children's mural that now hangs in the new building in a prominent place. This piece of art is simple, and drafted with the children's participation in mind.

This is the beginning, the background I sketched and painted.

I continued adding detail.

Next, I sketched in the cartoon characters and shaded them in to make it easier for the children to paint.

Closer view.

The young artists at work. They had a blast! (NOTE: the smocks the kids have on are old shirts that no longer fit me... recycled!)

After the kids painted, I redrew some of the character details and added some final touches. Yes, of COURSE it has a butterfly!

Detail.

Then it was moved to the new building and hung for me to finalize. It also has a frame now and I'll share that in a different journal.

So there it is as promised. Very fun, fulfilling, exciting stuff.

LIVING OUT LOUD.

What do you think?

Peace and butterfly dreams. Fluttering off to sleep now.

I think it is beautiful, Auntie! I want to come down and see it in person and paint on it with the kids! You are so talented! I am so glad and so proud of you for stomping down your depression so that you can create again! I love the little animals! Have you named them or is that something the kids get to do? I cannot say enough on what an inspiration you have been to me. I am so privileged to have made your acquaintance! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. Get a good night's rest and continue to rest tomorrow, my friend. You've earned a day off! I'm sending you a lot of love and huge hugs!!!

I absolutely love it! So whimsical, just like children. So glad they got to partake and can now have that sense of accomplishment along with you. You have come a long way baby!! Have a restful day, you certainly deserve it!!

Just beautiful.. You must be so proud of yourself and all the children who contributed. Such a lovely idea to involve them in the project, so that they feel part of it. I think we will forgive you for not going to the gym today... You certainly must be exhausted after all the work you have been involved with. Your body will soon recover and you will then feel that you really WANT to go to the gym... Have a lovely R&R. Xx

Come on down Pam... there will be future projects that will involve me and the children using their artistic talents. I am still tired this morning but I'll get there. Have a great day!

Thank you Babs, it was a fun project and it turned out exactly as I had hoped for. And yes we wanted the children to be a part of it, to take ownership of something very special. You could see and feel their enthusiasm both when they painted as well as when it was hung in the new space. Really, really cool.

Yes Skinny you are right... I am exhausted, but I will recover within a day or so and it's back to the gym for me! The kids had so much fun painting the mural, I can't wait to get them involved in the next project! Thanks for your comments and have a super Monday.
