Life Choices: For Better or For Worse

If you're dealt a crappy hand in regards to health problems its very unfortunate and I wish you better days ahead. However, self-inflicted health problems is MY/YOUR own fault and correcting the decisions/habits of the past and/or present should be taken seriously.

Heart disease, diabetes, thyroid conditions (hypo or hyper), and high-blood pressure runs in my family (Thanks A Lot Parents) So, at the ripening age of 41yrs I needed to reexamine my lifestyle.

Cons:

I'm a smoker for 15 yrs.

I drink alcohol at least 3-4 days out of the week

I've got high-blood pressure (damn salt & vinegar potato chips)

I rarely exercised (with the exception of last week)because I've been thin all of my life (Thanks again for the deceptive gene pool mom/dad)

Pros:

I've cut back 60% of sugary drinks/snacks about 7 yrs ago (that syrupy Kool-Aid I grew up with should be considered unlawful)

I love fruits & veggies (especially...well...pretty much all of them except for Brussel Sprouts...Yuk)

I consume at least 60 ounces of water daily (should be drinking 70 ounces...but I'm happy)

HOWEVER!!!!! THE PRO'S ARE NOT ENOUGH.

Over the last two weeks, here are some of the slight changes I've made:

1.
I still smoke but do not take any cigs to work with me. This helps me smoke less throughout the day when combining sleep w/a 9hr work day. I hope this will help quit entirely. (Nicotine companies can all burn in Hell)

2.
I've reduced my alcohol consumption to Friday and Saturdays only (I do miss my glass of wine when watching Scandal on Thirsty Thursdays). Besides, I only consume red wine or vodka (w/splash of cranberry) which has much less calories.

3.
Last week was the first time I've gone to the gym three times in the same week. In addition, I managed to squeeze in about 20 sit-ups and 40 jumping jacks in between the days I traveled to the gym. I will continue this routine.

4.
I've started a multi-vitamin regimen to include a fish oil pill (heart disease prevention) while still eating a pretty well-balanced meal (minus the processed carbs) daily.

5
Last but not least, although I have not gotten under 50 grams of carbs daily...but I'm pretty damn close.

Happy Health Journey!

@HCB, thanks a bunch for the support. I'm hoping to be smoke free too by my b-day on June 7th. That's why I'm slowing down to rid my body of this poison slowly but surely.
