Hiking update 🙂 life update rambles below.

My husband and I are halfway moved in and I'm about to start orientation for clerkship rotations. The good part about living with family is fewer costs and that they buy a ton of groceries to share, the bad part is there's barely room for my "own" food! I'm adding veggies and fruit to the shopping list every time because otherwise my diet would become junk food and frozen fried stuff 😬 idk how they don't feel like crap all the time! Don't get me wrong, I love a good calorie dense snack, but I'm talking the pantry and counters are FULL of peanut butter crackers, cookies, chips, and candy. I had to make room for my usual small indulgences of biscotti and gourmet hard candy...I'm trying to stick to that on occasion while ignoring the piles of snacks everywhere else. Sticking to logging at the beginning of the day to help curb impulse snacking. There's a reason I usually would have my snacks put away and not on display wherever I go 😅

I understand the battle 100%, its always about choices but it makes a lot harder when the food is in the house. Real food is so much better than snacks!

Sometimes it's just easier to store your own dry food items in your room, along with a personal fridge, like a dorm sized one. That way you won't need to go into the kitchen pantry and be tempted. Curious: are the family members obese, or do they have diabetes, heart disease, etc.?

Glad you and your husband are somewhere safe and affordable. I’ve been there and understand the blessings and the drawbacks of living with family - diet wise and in general. Good luck

I probably will store my dry food in our room if I can find a good place for it. Yeah, lots of family members have an health issues and I'm sure their diet doesn't help. But that's their choice, I've tried helping and they'll often say how they know they need to eat better but I can't force them to 🤷 So I just worry about me

Good job to avoid the snacks, even when difficult. Enjoy your family.

I hear you! We've lived with family for a while as well and my sister was always baking cookies or banana bread and leaving them on display on the counter. She'd also bake chocolate cake or brownies for any and all occasions - so the temptation was constant. Sounds like you have a good strategy of tracking what you'll have to plan ahead though. It is quite sad when family are not ready to make changes, but as you say - we can only worry about ourselves and being here on FS makes a huge difference (IMHO). Good luck!
