Sandy701's Journal, 13 May 11

No walking today, as I had a volunteer commitment at church during my usual walking time. Sure, I could go out now, or later, but it's warm out, I've already showered, etc. Plus, part of the reason I added a bit of mileage this week was in anticipation of not walking today. OK....done justifying.

The termites are swarming, so that's driving everyone in town crazy. DH was working on his car the other night, garage doors wide open and all the lights on, when he came in to tell me there were all sorts of flying bugs out there and I should come and see. Well.....they weren't just bugs, they were swarming termites! They really don't do damage at this stage, but they make you question all the various preventatives that are in place on your home. We're having our company come out to re-check everything, just to be sure, even though they've already done their annual inspection and they also re-treated the soil this year, as that is due every 8 years.

So, for the next week or so, we won't be turning on any outside lights, we'll close all the blinds after dusk and we'll try to keep the lights off that are near the windows. We have a street light nearby, so that's an automatic magnet for them that we can't do anything about. Ah, life in the Deep South.....

After church this morning, I hopped on over to Kohl's and bought new, smaller pants (sz. 14) for church and other similar situations. The new 16's I bought just a couple months ago are truly just too baggy now. I tried on some 12's just to see if I was anywhere close to that size, but no, it will be a good while, if ever. I really thought the 14's were "my size" at a reasonable weight, but now, I'm not so sure. Might be smaller - eventually. I also tried on some tops that were on sale (when aren't they...) in a Misses' XL. They were OK, but a little more form-fitting than I like, so I'll stay in the Plus size 1X for now.

BTW, when I was in Atlanta, I found some tops in a 0X size in the Plus dept. that fit great. But what in the world is a 0X???? Sure it's smaller than a 1X, but does 0X really mean Large since there is no X? And how does it correlate to Missy sizes? In most instances, wouldn't a person who fits in a 0X in Plus prefer to buy an XL in Missy or even a Large?

I would have loved to do a comparison, since it was the store's own brand carried in both Missy and Plus, but the Missy dept. was up 2 levels from where the Plus dept. was and I wasn't in the mood to go traipsing around, comparing shirts to satisfy my curiosity. The 0X fit great, so I just went ahead and bought them. Dontcha just love women's sizing???

DH cannot understand why we have to try things on. He thinks you go into a store, find your size and buy it. Now if that were only true shopping would be so much easier.

Yup, women's sizes are crazy and if you stay and go through clothes long enough, you will go crazy.lol Swarming Termites really sound terrible. We don't have that here. We have flying ants. Now that is a real mess and lights also attract them. Hope you have a great weekend.:)

Hate womens sizes so for me it is about sticking with same brands where I know what the sizes are and can usually internet shop with pretty good luck. I really hate shopping and I live quite far from any decent stores to make it worth my while. Must bite the bullet at some point here shortly as all my previous wardrobe is swimmingly huge! Oh yes, critters??? We have the larger variety, ie: bears, deer, racoon etc!

You know Buffy, I think that's just the way guys shop - IF they shop at all! A lot give up and just let us do all the work, LOL! DH shops for himself upon occasion, but rarely to spend more than $5 - $10 for each item, as he thinks anything more is "overpriced." If I held to that limit, I doubt I'd even be dressed, although finances might be better...LOL!

Hi Laurie, nice to see you stopping by. They always make a big deal here about making sure these things are termites and not the flying ants, so maybe we get those too. I don't really know as this is only our 2nd spring here and just the first with a termite swarm. Although I have to admit that if you don't leave the garage open with the lights on, one might never even be aware that they are swarming. You have a good weekend, too.

Babs, you can keep those bigger critters! Glad to see you're out and about in the journals. Hope your DH is recuperating and doing well at home. The internet has been great for me with shorts, especially. I can find "my" brand and style and buy with confidence that they'll fit. I actually enjoy shopping, as long as I'm not on a tight schedule or HAVE to find a specific garment for an occasion right now! The only dangerous thing is that as I'm losing weight, I'm getting my passion for fashion back.....Oh no!!!!
