Hello FS friends and Happy Friday! Earlier this week I started to type a comment on someone’s post but did not get to finish it. This person was relatively new to FS, already liking our positive community and looking for recommendations on getting started. I have scrolled back twice through several days of posts but cannot find it. So, if you are that person, or anyone else new to FS or returning, welcome!! I started using the app in Feb ‘21 to track my meals but have found the friendly company and good advice a delightful bonus. Maybe someday I will get the point where I don’t need to record everything but for now that is what works. I also like being able to plan ahead and also correct past entries in the food journal when I realize I forgot to enter something. The body weight planner from the National Institute of Health at https://www.niddk.nih.gov/bwp is very helpful to determine calorie intake & set goals given your specific situation (age, activity level etc.). I also read nutrition articles on healthline.com (e.g., features of various diets, protein intake needs).

One of these days I will get around to writing up a bio. In the meantime I have been thinking about what might have happened if I had been on FS or something similar the last time I lost a significant amount of weight. I was exercising regularly and tracking what I ate on paper and lost about 50 pounds (2003-07). I looked pretty good at my high school reunion! If only I hadn’t returned to old habits (more eating, less exercise, and no tracking) over the next several years. So my advice to the younger crowd here is to do as much as you can now to turn things around and stay on a healthier path. Even when you get stuck or tired of it or life goes whacko, don’t give up. The pounds are sneaky little b*****ds that will come back while you’re not looking!
