Hi FS family! My head hurts this time change and losing an hour of sleep is hurting me. I actually lost more than an hour because I was up earlier than I should have been because I was scared the alarm on my phone wouldn't reset on its own and I would miss my ski bus. So I kept checking it overnight Saturday.

Its my weekly check in and as usual now I want to know your thoughts. (I already know instinctively its a bad idea but I guess I'm hoping someone will give me an alternative view. There that's my disclaimer.) So...I've started listening to a podcast about weight loss and they mentioned the concept of taking nicotine as a supplement (example: lozenges or gum) to help with weight loss. Anyone ever hear of this?

I don't know the difference in effect between nicotine in cigarettes and nicotine in supplements, but nicotine itself is a highly addictive and toxic scientific substance. I'm a smoker myself, but I would never recommend cigarettes to anyone.

Never heard of that and sounds like a terrible idea. Trading one bad thing for another. How strange.

They say that the harmfulness of nicotine is the addictiveness and the other side effects not the same as cigarettes. The idea is that it is better because it doesn’t have the tar etc… you get from cigarettes. It works to keep reduce hunger without the harmful tar.

Don't do it! It's a terrible idea. Stick to the old fashioned, true, things that we all know work. It's a temporary fix for sure, if it even really works...plus I think it may be dangerous...

Nicotine is known to be addictive. Terrible idea. I guess if you're hell bent on a supplement to save your ass, I'd stick with caffeine. Also a terrible idea, but less addictive than nicotine. They say exercise is addictive...

Sounds like adding a 2nd addiction to me. You are struggling with your lifestyle improvements Now. That seems like striking a match to see if you are truly out of gas. BOOM! You are stronger than you think. Make 1 change or choice for a week or two. Then you can add a new one to it once you have mastered the first one. Too many drastic changes only set you up for disappointment. You can start again and again many times before you get to comfort. You Only fail if you Stop Trying.

Mouth Cancer is just one of the many reasons NOT to chew nicotine. Another addiction and a kick in the teeth/mouth/jaw/throat.....

p$mさん> If it actually 'has the effect of suppressing hunger,' I personally don't recommend relying on nicotine supplements because they are acting on the brain. I personally believe that if you get used to suppressing hunger, not just with nicotine, but in an unnatural way, you 'may become undernourished. Personally, I think 'hunger is a very important sign for maintaining good health.

I so agree. Natural time is great. Daylight savings is not. It gets sunnier later in summer anyway. It saves nothing. We use more ac. I do not get it.

Also nicotine on any level is bad. Don’t do it.

Nicotine causes muscle twitches which burn about 2 calories a minute. Highly addictive. Someone else referenced mouth cancer too.

Thanks everyone. I knew it was a bad idea. I use to smoke way way back in the day and it did give kill my hunger or at kept me from eating. Admittedly my eating habits are not because I’m hungry it cause I’m bored. I’ve noticed the same when I take Sudafed. I just don’t think of food. Not necessarily not hungry. I don’t know what that is and how to get it naturally except for when I’m really busy. I think maybe I have too much time on my hands and not enough time to do the things that are enjoyable to keep me busy. Oh well I knew the answer so again thanks everyone!

be safe and check in with your doctor, to see about what is right for you. There is a bunch of misinformation out there. Everyone wants to sell you something.
