Info for diabetics; ya might want to steer clear of MSG

The water weight I gained is gone and my blood sugars are great. I've been researching as to what I ate at the restaraunt that could've set me off. A friend from another list asked if I had any other symptoms other that high blood sugars and sudden weight gain and I realized I did. I had pain on the left side of my head and face like I had been punched. That lasted 2 days. I just didn't tie it in because most all my symptoms are due to fibro so it's hard to separate what's fibro and what might be caused by something else. In the end, I'm never rreally sure. As it is, I have no idea when or if I have the flu lol.

We've concluded it was the MSG often used in lettuce at many eating establishments. So I now know to ask first before ordering or to just eat my salads at home.

I think this is usfull info to pass on to anyone who eats out only to come home with high blood sugar readings.

Ahh.. another lesson learned! (((hugs))) to all! ♥Ruby♥

MSG is horrible, and it sneaks up where you least expect it. I get terrible migraines that can last for days from MSG so I totally understand the head pain. I am glad you were able to figure out what was causing the issue and are able to avoid it so hopefully it doesn't happen again!

Wow Pixi, ya know it's funny but not that many years ago I had no idea how bad msg was but then didn't have internet either. I'm so grateful for this learning tool and friends like you who are so helpful!

yeah I never realized how bad it was until it sent me to the hospital with a major migraine that I thought was a stroke, its great that we are able to let each other know these things!

Oh yeah, Ruby...my youngest cannot eat at any Mexican restaurant because he gets the most horrid headaches. It has been like that since he was a little guy...he used to throw up when he ate anything from any Mexican restaurant and he has to be really careful at Chinese restaurants also. We are lucky that our local oriental restaurant uses no MSG. How cool is that?

Ruby, I will pass this on to my daughter as this may be the culprit to her headaches...I had no idea they used it in lettuce...wow, it is curious as to the things we are doing to our bodies unknowingly isn't it? Thanks again, TOWANDA!!!!

Goodness Stef. My oldest is that way about fish but I wonder about the reactions with so many foods unknown to us with msg and I hear sulfites may be used as well. Sheesh!

Yeah, Lisa.. I'm still learning too. And to think that both we and our kids have grown up with crap in our foods. It's no wonder we're having so many problems. Well as they say, forewarned is forearmed!
