Sandy701's Journal, 22 Mar 11

Just finished walking 3.3 miles - the usual - with doggies along for 2.6. It's getting warmer and warmer so we'll have to start adjusting our timing to get out earlier (I hate getting up early...).

Anyway, I walked in my size 14 shorts for the first time - yahoo!!! My 16's have been sliding down a bit, esp. when weighted down with my cell phone, a small spray canister, treats, house keys and plastic bags - the usual paraphernalia I carry when walking the dogs. The only problem with the smaller size is that it seems they've made the pockets smaller and I need all the room I can get! The 16's will still be fine occasionally and around the house, but I think it's just about time to take the 18's out of rotation. The 18's are REALLY roomy now and truly look like someone else's shorts. I wouldn't wear them out in public anymore.

I'm coming up on a year being on Atkins (near the end of the month). I specifically remember a year ago, as I was preparing for this same trip. I had exactly 1 pair of jeans that fit and most of my shirts and tops were too snug for me to be comfortable wearing them. How do you pack for nearly a week if you have 1 pair of jeans and very few tops that fit??? I had to resort to wearing a couple pair of dressier (roomier) slacks for that trip and the tops I could stand to wear. Not exactly a fashion statement, but they were my only possibilities. And, those size 18 shorts I'm taking out of rotation? Well, I couldn't even fit in those for at least a month AFTER starting Atkins! I also remember doing a lot of walking on our trip but feeling very much out of shape and HEAVY. I was at my highest weight ever, something over 235.

This year's trip will be so much different. Fifty-one weeks later and 62 pounds lighter makes a difference, even if most of it has been 1 little pound at a time.

Such an amazing journey you have been on one pound at a time! I am so happy for you & understand completely how wonderfulll it feels to take those clothes that are too big out of rotation. I have implemented what I call a fat box - that's where I have been putting things as they become too big. I am not sure what to do with them after that because in the past I have always got rid of that stuff & then ended up buying new fat clothes; since I want to be different from old habits/cycles so maybe this time I will keep them as a reminder - like hang them on a wall or something? What do you do with yours?

Congratulations on those size 14's! And yes - go burn those 18's!

PS - My husband always complains about how many clothes I have. What he doesn't understand is that I can only wear a few of them at any given time.

@ GG-girl...Some larger items I am finally ready to donate, esp. the ones I wasn't too keen on to begin with. A few nicer, brand name things I may put on eBay. But some items (not a whole lot, but some), I think I'll put away for a "future surgery." No, nothing's planned or even anticipated at this point, but I saw my DH balloon upward after heart surgery and NEED larger clothing to tide him over until the swelling and fluid retention went down. And it was not just a couple of pounds! I guess I'm at an age where I think there's a likelihood I may encounter something similar at some point in the future, will be on a fixed income by then, have no extra money for short-term clothing, etc. Strange way of looking at things, I know, but that's me, I guess.

@ BuffyBear...I know what you mean about having a lot of clothes but only wearing "some." I could clear out one entire closet completely if I could just stay at one weight! Sadly, having the ability to keep buying larger sizes made it easier to postpone having to do anything about my weight.

If there is a better psychological boost than a smaller size, I do not know what it could be. You may not think so, but I bet those 12s are in your future. I give my clothes to a friend who is bigger than I am and hope to motivate her. It is not working so the resale shop will be very happy for the next batch. For certain, I am never going back and will not keep any thing too big. Any thing happens in the future, there are always muu'muu's, always stylish here. I totally reject them now. It is so much fun to look "normal" again. At 275 I wore three skirts and three blouses, all the same, in different colors because It was the only thing I felt decent in. Sandy, by the time I weighed 235 I was actually feeling pretty good about myself. Your dedication to your exercise has really paid off but I am afraid being in the old girls club makes weight loss slower. 62 pounds in 51 weeks is just exceptional. Congratulations.

Wow from 18's to 14's. What an accomplishment. I would strutt my stuff if that happened to me. Congrats on the 62lbs. You deserve new clothes. Have a great evening......Bren

@ Sweetie girl...yup, I sure can't lose weight the way I did when I was younger. But, to tell the truth, based on everything I heard about weight loss...um....let's say after 30? LOL!....well, it's actually going better than I thought. I mean, some people made it sound next to impossible once you're post-menopausal! We're both here to show people that just 'cuz one is in the old girls' club doesn't mean you can't lose weight. And one of the best things is that we're showing that it can be done eating sensibly....no 300-calorie days for us and no 6-hour gym routines, either. I guess with age, a bit of common sense returns. Yes, I do believe there may be 12's in my future, but definitely no 4's!!! LOL! Have a good evening.

Hi Bren, thanks for stopping by. I'll be looking for some newer styled clothes on my upcoming trip. Just yesterday, though, I tried on 2 shirts that had previously been too snug across the chest and too tight across my hips. They fit perfectly now! One of them is on me now and the other will go on the trip. Luckily, they're classics. Have a good Wednesday!
