mars2kids's Journal, 18 Mar 14

I did my run yesterday, it was cooler than it was supposed to be, but I got it done. I struggled a little, my foot and heal are hurting. I think my high arched feet are the problem. I have to make an appointment with my joint doctor soon, so I guess I'll ask him about it when I go in. Maybe I've just tried to do too much running too fast. I'm going to do DVD's for a couple of days because of the weather anyway, so we'll see how my foot feels after that. I'm also going to go buy some orthotics today and maybe that will help.

I did okay with my eating yesterday. I resisted those delicious looking cookies all day. It was hard, but I kept thinking about how crappy I'd feel when I was running if I snacked on cookies. Luckily today there is nothing to tempt me, so I should be good. I'm guessing on dinner today. I'm assuming we're having BLT's, because honestly I can't remember what else I got for dinner this week. Maybe I should have bought some food that is good for my brain, except I think they say fish is good brain food and I hate fish. :)

Sleepy day today. Weather is gloomy and going to get more gloomy as the day goes on. Wish I were snuggled in bed, but alas, it's not meant to be. :)

Have a great Tuesday!!

Definitely look into orthotics. Plus, what kind of shoes are you using? Are they running shoes? Having the right shoes makes a difference. Good for you to resist the cookies at work. I went home yesterday and ate birthday cake!

Yep, I have running shoes. My hubby actually bought them for me specifically for running and said the guy that sold them to him said his wife uses them and loves them for running. I have other joint issues, so it wouldn't surprise me if I had a joint issue in my foot. Hopefully the orthotics will help. :)

I have custom orthotics as I have plantar fasciitis (sharp heel pain). If and when you do get orthotics, you will have to start slow and only wear them a few hours a day as it takes awhile to get use to them. Do you know if your shoes are 'neutral' or 'stability'? That makes a difference too. Good luck! Keep at the running though... you will get stronger no matter what!

Thanks for the info Aggie! I'll have to look and see which my shoes are. I just bought some inserts today to try and see if the arches and shock absorption help any. I can't get in to the doc until May, so we'll see how I'm feeling. I'm not going to worry about time right now, just my distance, if I have to walk more, then I do, but eventually I'll be strong. :)

I had an injury from running and the Orthopedic Surgeon who saw me (and was the the team surgeon for our local Major League Baseball and Football teams) said only athletes should ever run. The pounding the feet, ankles, legs, hips and back gets is not at all for people who do not have to be in top shape to make a living. Even these people often have short careers, he pointed out. He said walking is just as good and much much more gentle on our bodies. Further he said, every single ounce of weight over our ideal weight just makes the body's punishment all the more serious and that running for weight loss was an extremely bad idea. I do walking on dirt, grass or padded surfaces, and exercise bikes to great success. Good luck, and be gentle to your body, you need it to last.

Proud of you mars! Just slow it down and take your time when youre feeling uncomfortable. I would love to run more but I allow several days in between runs for recovery because im paranoid of injury. You are kicking ass though, keep up the awesome job :-)
