Babe53's Journal, 15 Feb 14

My only experience in dieting has been Weight Watchers. Without even becoming a member, I managed to lose 40 lbs with no problem. (Mom had given me the old paper points calculator and books from her meetings) That was back when I was way younger. So, I know it works. And, too, my Mom has been a lifetime member of Weight Watchers for over 40 years; she's always looked great. I learned what a healthy portion is and I learned how to eat the right foods. Foods low in fat, high fiber, etc. It truly is one of the best diets out there. (LIFESTYLE, excuse me) ;) But one of the things I love most about WW is the fact that there are no restrictions as far as what foods you can have.

So, when I started on the Atkins diet, it made me so uncomfortable. It's one that goes so against all that I've learned -- eating high fat? OMG! Really? But, the weight was coming off nicely ... it was working! But oh how I miss so many different foods. I'm on the induction phase currently and there are many restrictions. I feel deprived. :-/

I need someone to tell me to hang in there. I need someone to say, ITS OKAY, you will be able to add back some of those carbs your missing; induction isn't FOR LIFE. I need someone to say READ THAT BOOK AGAIN. I need the reassurance that eating all this FAT is not going to kill me or block my arteries. I need a hug. :-/

Going to spend a chunk of my day today reading this book some more. I have the newest one.

P.S. Off topic: Have any of you made those cheese chips? What do you think of them? What seasonings do YOU use in them? I did some surfing last night, trying to get ideas on foods to have during this first phase.

Okay, Babe53, a couple of things. First of all, look at this from the other side - look at all the things you CAN eat! I don't know Atkins well, but aren't allowed to have cheese omelets and steaks and seafood and bacon? I mean BACON?? I would kill to have bacon on this diet, LOL. So, yeah, READ THAT BOOK AGAIN! And here's a big hug for you <<<HUGZ>>> Induction is just a phase in thing, right? Pretend you were stuck on that island from Castaway and all there was to eat was freakin seaweed, raw oysters and dirt. Feel better about your choices now? Northernmusician, who knows A LOT about nutrition, told me that somehow, the fats can't metabolize without the carbs, or something like that. That's how you can eat them and somehow lose weight. So talk to him for a pep talk, too. Okay, that's all I got. Hope you feel better. Love and hugs, Dom

Yes fat's are important. If you have heart disease in your family, go for the better fats (peanut butter/avocado) and limit bacon and such.

I know how your feeling. I just started the induction phase myself and I have to cheat one day a week, because my husband and I go out to Dinner for our date night and Chinese food isn't carb friendly. I do try to keep my net carbs under 20 during the rest of the week though to make up for the cheating. As for getting through the induction phase I just made a weekly menu of foods I could have under the 20 nc and then I mix it up every other week. It seems to work for me, but I do miss my chocolate.

Wow you guys, thank you so much. I kinda regretted posting this entry; I sound like a whiner!!!! And by nature, I'm the most upbeat, positive person I know. Seriously! It makes me feel better; putting the fat in perspective, that it doesn't metabolize without the carbs. (INTERESTING!) I'll have to look up Northernmusician. ✔ Alright, thanks for the pep talks. They mean so much to me, and I feel so BLESSED now, that I have more than just seaweed, raw oysters and dirt to eat! LOL I needed that ♡

Cheese Chips. If you're talking about microwaving or baking pieces of cheese. They are delish and so easy to make.

Hi Babe. You're making some great progress! I wanted to let you in on my experience with my atkins journey. I'm really learning new things about it every day. Some people seem like it's the easiest thing in the world and to them it might be. For me though, I dont limit fat but I dont go crazy either. I also have started very closingely watching all my calories. Im finding my scales are moving again at low carb along with less than 1200 calories a day. A lot of time i'm even lower than 1000 calories a day but for me anyway, none of those calories can come from carbs. I gain weight immediately. Good luck and keep up the great work:-)

I don't want to make anybody mad. I believe that everybody's diet will work to one degree or another. Ask yourself why you switched to Atkins? If you lose the weight with Atkins, but feel like you're depriving yourself all the time, you will get very frustrated. People that do well with Atkins and stay with it, do so because they like the options.
