I am so close to doing it. I had the page up, the credit card out and was filling in all of the blanks. When I hit submit, I received a message that my page had timed out. I am really really on the fence. My goal is to complete a full marathon this year. I am no where near ready for it right now. I did download Hal Higdon's full marathon trainer. The marathon I am seriously considering is in Cincinnati. It is probably a three or four hour drive. It is $90 to enter. It just so happens that right now I wouldn't be in a world of hurt if I went ahead and paid $90. Here is my dilemma: My half marathon is exactly two weeks prior to the full marathon. I also don't know that 12 weeks is long enough to train up for a full marathon. I don't have down how to fuel correctly...I practically drown myself when I attempt to drink water while running. Right now, I can muster out 7.5 miles on a good day with Run/Walk/Run intervals. Can I do complete a marathon by the first Sunday in May??? If I sign up I have to complete the course in seven hours. That is about a 16 minute per mile pace. I don't want to waste 90 bucks. But if I go ahead and register, it may keep me more motivated to stay on track. There are other marathons... Maybe this one is just too soon. Ugh. I dunno what to do!!! If I wait too long to register, it may be sold out. I hope the Running Gods send me a sign!

It sounds like you're not ready for a marathon. Will training for the half-marathon be enough motivation for you? Because that's an incredible feat in itself!

I have been training for the half since November. This will be my third half in my life, but my first in the last ten years. I feel that I can finish a half right now but with some soreness afterwards and a slower pace. I have good and bad running days. Sometimes I am churning out 11 minute miles and other days I am at 15 min. And, I just realized I will have 15 training weeks, rather than 12 if I started right away. So...I think I'm going to do it. There have been a million times when I've doubted myself or didn't start something because of fear of failure. I didn't know that I would stick with my healthy lifestyle change this long either. I guess I won't really know if I can do it or not unless I just jump right in. Taking that credit card back out of my wallet. ;o)

I have done three marathons in my life and I have to tell you that it was the hardest thing I have ever done but it was so worth the feeling afterward to know I actually finished. If you have the time to train then I say go for it! I also followed Higdon's plan when I trained.....it is a good one. Just be sure you train well, if you put in a good effort you will have the strength to cross that finish line and you will be so proud of yourself! Good luck and run strong

Hey there, I used Hal Higdons marathon training app for my Marathon last year and it helped a lot. I believe the training is 18 weeks. If you are starting three weeks in, I woud recommend not stopping prior to the 20 miler a couple of weeks out. So in other words, I would start the training three weeks into the program. I believe that will put you at 7 miles for your long run. The program is very time consuming but works! There's good news and bad news : ) If you use this training program your half will be a breeze, if you use this training program you will be able to complete a marathon….Bad news…It's going to Hurt. The memory, your'll have it forever along with the toenails that fall off…lol I start my training Feb. 18th for Grandmas marathon in Duluth MN.

Yep. I input the date of the run and it calculated it all for me as far as starting point. It has me starting on Week 4. I have been using Galloway, but wasn't crazy about the Galloway Marathon Reviews. I liked the Flying Pig Marathon because it does give you seven hours to complete the course. Finishing it is more important to me than my finishing time, but I don't want to be excused from the race. I'm really excited about it.

Best of luck! Might want to surround yourself around some runners. Maybe a local running club for accountability. Some of those long runs are very tough to look forward to mentally. : ) happy for you...

its is a great marathon and worth the $90.00. I have run it twice. I ran the 4th and 10th anniversary runs.

No running clubs here. I live in a very rural area. But, I do have a running buddy I am hoping to talk into doing it with me. Thank you for the comment Perry. I am very much looking forward to it now.

You should go for, you can do it for sure! With your dedication and the added fire under your bum from the impending marathon there is no way you wont be ready. Besides, how ready can you get? Will you ever feel one hundred percent prepped, i doubt it. I have faith in you, its doable!! Oh and Cincy is about four hours from me too, small world :-)

Thank you, Yolanda! I really do appreciate the encouragement.

It is complicated when things like that happen - it makes me wonder if the universe is sending a message. Or is it a test .. asking 'how much do you really want this... ?' Let us know what you decide :-)

I signed up and paid last night. My husband thinks I am crazy. But, when I told my son his response was "Mom, I think you're badass enough to finish." That makes it worth every cent.

Definitely badass enough to finish it!!! You've got this, so super excited for you :-)

He who hesitates is not ready. I did that last year for a 5k. This year I've signed up for the same 5k I bailed on last year and another one in April.

Well, I've signed up and paid so if I am not ready now then I have 15 weeks to be ready. I guess the good thing about being born so damned stubborn is that when I'm told I can't do something it makes me that much more determined. Goodbye toenails! Ha

It's a badge of honor! Lock it in with the training and you got this!

I *personally* would not sign-up for any run that is not within commuting distance. Three-to-four hours away means a hotel room, which means the $90 (or whatever) race entry fee is now $200 for me. I don't like running enough to spend $200 for a vacation that won't involve any sort of vacation-ing. But that's me. Have you run a 1/2 marathon before? Or will this be your first half PLUS you're contemplating your first full?

^ ah ^ I see that you've run a 1/2 before, but not in the past decade. So your body is TODAY a half-marathon newbie, basically. Your choice, but running a full is not twice as hard as running a half. Running a full is 4x as hard, because miles 13-to-26 are not like miles 1-to-13

oops, I see that you signed up (new to this whole comment.chat stuff) ** ROCK IT ** I'm signed up for my third half this spring, worst that can happen is you jog/walk, right? better than not trying
