put a little white vinegar in the water... it will hold the egg whites together

I think you can also put the egg in a small 1 cup Pyrex bowl and put the bowl in a pot before you boil it. I've never poached an egg before but I think my mom used to do that. I always think about trying it.

This may not give the perfect shape BUT
An even easier method for poached eggs
Crack your egg into a bowl or onto a saucer. ...
Bring a pan of water filled at least 5cm deep to a simmer. ...
Tip the egg into the pan. ...
Cook for 2 minutes then turn off the heat and leave the pan for 8-10 minutes.
Lift the egg out with a slotted spoon and drain it on kitchen paper.
