Did some baking with the girls this weekend. The fruit cake is for my Great Aunt. My great grandma used to make it for her then when she passed my mom made it and when mom passed I started making it. Decided I wanted some homemade bread too so we made a double batch of bread. We each get our own loaf and a extra 1-2 to give away.

I made these last week and made some more today. Instead of two batches I made 6 today! Shared with 5 of my neighbors (3 households are family), hubby grandma in town and he will deliver some to my great aunts when he’s over that way tomorrow. Had enough left over for hubby to have a large loaf and a small loaf each for the girls and I. That leaves one small loaf extra.

A bit selfish too actually. Maybe that’s not the right word... but I love to make bread. If I keep it all I’ll either eat all of it @ 500 kcal per small loaf or 1250 per large loaf or it’ll get wasted because I’ll feel guilty for eating it all and gaining weight. It sucks that we haven’t been to a family holiday gathering on my side since last Christmas. This way I could have hubby drop some to my great aunts when he was over that way with work. His grandma is forgetful at 97 years old so isn’t allowed to bake or cook (she forgot to turn the stove off a couple times and the smoke alarms went off and the fire dept came, but no harm done). I wanted her to have some too. Then I know his parents, sister and cousin like bread too. I also wanted to give some to a neighbor who moved down the road about two miles away this summer. Then I couldn’t leave out our longest neighbor... it just kinda snowballed lol. The kids ate half of theirs already so I’ll probably make another batch this weekend. I think it’s a healthier snack than snack cakes or cookies and if they help then they are also learning to make it themselves so win win!

That is so great!!! Seems a few people on FS are doing the same. Great idea to share and wonderful example and learning experience! Scary about your grandma though! I always worry about forgetting to turn stuff off too now that I'm older!

I’ll be 40 next month and I’ve forgotten to turn off the oven a time or two. Always when home though. Hubby forgets a lot so I’ve developed a habit of checking the stove and oven when I go to the kitchen. My middle forgot to turn off the stove burner the other day but I was right there making gravy so I knew it was still on. His grandma lives in an assisted living apartment. She has a nurse who checks on her a couple times a day. Each room has a sensor or something that lets them know which apartment and which room it is. My MIL has assured us his grandma is safe and the response is fast when there’s an issue.

That's so good they have those sensors in place and check on her!!! When I was a kid after we had fire safety in school I used to get up after everyone went to bed to make sure the stove was off! 😂

Thanks wifey. Bear, after those classes I used to go check my moms ash trays to make sure her cigarettes were out and the tree was unplugged during the holidays. I’d seen on the news that those were the biggest causes of house fires back then and I was terrified of our house burning down.
