Sandy701's Journal, 09 Dec 10

It's been a heart-warming 2 days and I'm in the best mood since I don't know when. It all revolves around a young woman who has taken herself and her young child out of a VERY physically abusive situation and is bravely doing what she needs to do. I met her this week at the resale shop where I volunteer. We occasionally get clients from other agencies with whom we cooperate. These clients can come in and get what (the agency says) they need for free. Lots of additional drama ensued while she was in the shop, but the result was that a number of us are picking up some additional items that she needs but that the shop did not have. Trying to fulfill some of the needs has taken on a life of its own with phone calls being made and more people getting involved, and all for a very worthwhile cause of a mother and her child.

Today meant taking some things I had here at home to the resale shop so that they could be put with other things the mother was coming back to pick up. From there, I was off to do the last bit of Christmas shopping. I managed to find the last few items I was looking for, finding some excellent bargains along the way. I FINALLY found the illusive navy lightweight jacket that was needed for an Angel Tree gift...navy appears to NOT be the color this year.

But as I was shopping, I continued to think of that young mother who fled a home with literally just her child and the clothes on their backs. I will never forget the look of absolute joy on her face when I said, yes, she could have a used, older model coffeemaker in addition to her other items. You would have thought she had won the lottery! And this was from a woman who still did not have a bed of her own.

Ever since Wednesday, I've taken a fresh look at all the "things" I take for granted...a nice cushiony bed with plenty of blankets for warmth, a pillow, plates to eat food on, utensils, a safe place to live, a vehicle to go from place to place. I am truly blessed but I am also challenged to use my abilities and what I have for God's purposes.

Sandy, what a wonderful story....I am so glad that she got the heck out of there. God bless you for helping her. And yes, I too, have been taking a new look at my blessings, and I am so amazed and thankful for all that God has done for me and for all His gifts. A home, a warm bed, food in my tummy, and a husband who treats me like a princess. What more could I possibly need? Thanks Sandy for your service and for helping those less fortunate. God Bless!
