Sandy701's Journal, 02 Dec 10

I ended up taking Tuesday, the 30th off due to storms. It turned out that I could have walked after all, as the storms rolled in later in the day. Still, I think it's important to give the body a rest, even if I'm not seriously taxing it!!

Yesterday and today, December 1 & 2, I walked 3.1 miles each day with the doggies. After the storms finished, the front came through and dropped us near freezing and then last night it actually did freeze. So, the AM walks were chilly, even with me all bundled up in layers.

The end of November makes for another month of statistics for me to analyze with respect to my weight loss. I managed to squeeze out 4 pounds in November while keeping my ratio of foods (62% fat/28% protein/10% carb) still near Induction levels. My weight loss per month has had a "lunar landing" look to it.....in pounds after Induction, it's been 7,7,6,6,5,5,4. What concerns me is that if this pattern continues, it will end my weight loss in June at 167 pounds, far shy of my 145 goal (which I'd actually like to see at 138).

My exercise has increased over this time period and my calories have decreased as well, but not enough to keep pace with the reduced calorie expenditure due to weighing less. What I'm looking at right now is the ratio of calories expended to calories taken in. The Whyguy thread over on Atkins seems to propose that there's a sweet spot to the calorie deficit for weight loss and that too much of a deficit, ironically, will shut it down. A HUGE deficit? Sure, I believe that, as the body WILL go into starvation mode and slow its metabolism. But exactly where is the point at which the body does this? I'm not convinced the sweet spot is as narrow as he postulates, and I suspect it varies by individual and is affected by age, among other variables.

I'm thinking of playing around a bit and trying to achieve my exercise calories to be 1.75 times my calories taken in. My ratio had been 1.7 for all months prior to November when it dropped to 1.64. Is that significant? I don't know. Time will tell. (Obviously, there has to be some consistency in how one logs food and exercise to look at the ratio. And, the actual multiplier may be greatly different from person to person depending on how one logs the exercise and due to individual differences.)

Well, today I'm off to the grocery store and trying to get some paperwork done. An insurance agency, that had been in business over 80 years, decided to defraud its life insurance customers (like us) and just take the $$ and not pass it on to the actual insurance company. Basically, we (and others) paid for life insurance for the last 2 years and had NONE. We've done business with them for years and would have never thought they'd do anything like this. Now, we, and several hundred others, need to copy bills and records to submit to law enforcement so they can prosecute the agency. Restitution? Haven't heard anything on that although the owner was quoted as saying they were going to make things right for everyone. Not holding my breath on that one.

Sandy, I am in the same boat....no weight loss this month, but my deficits and numbers still look good! I have no idea what the heck is going on. I know that I cannot lose on less that 1200 calories a day...I don't know maybe I should lower my intake and see what happens. I am just flummoxed right now. Suppose I should be happy that I am not gaining!

Hi Sandy, your self evaluation opened my eyes to many things.I have a couple of questions. One most important question is why it always happens that I stop losing while I hit 155pounds mark and then I gradually gain it all back?second is I'm doing 20net carbs ,and I want to go up through carb ladder and see if I can gradually increase carbs but still lose. But I'm so afraid to start gaining again. What is your suggestion about this?
