Sandy701's Journal, 23 Oct 13

Not a whole lot new going on. Just working on plan and making sure my walking is done. Dogs and I walked 3.1 miles this morning....brisk, cool, sunshine, and barely 60 degrees! Actually had to find a fleece vest and my earband to wear out there today.

I've been sorting some of the things I brought back with me after the funeral. We took care of most of the clothing while there, but a few pieces that my sister was ready to toss, I felt I could rejuvenate and donate. I've also got a few, new outfits that I had already purchased for Christmas that I'll be donating today. It's beyond the time period for returning them, as I often had to buy way ahead of time when I could actually find the kinds of fabrics and styles that my mom preferred.

Last night, I also went through other items like the many years' worth of small stuffed animals I had sent her for various occasions. Some still have tags on them (of the collectible sort) and look brand new. I sorted them by occasion and will be consigning them as those occasions get closer, or I'll just donate them outright.

Well, I'm off to make up some breakfast/lunch. I wanted to wait just a bit while my Collie recovered from inhaling some kind of bug....at least that's what I think happened. Lots of snuffing, sneezing, hacking, etc. He was breathing OK, finished up the walk OK, and was wagging his tail and eating a couple treats, so I didn't think it was anything serious. Still....I wanted to watch him in case I needed to run him to the vet quick...just wanted to be sure he hadn't inhaled a bee! He seems OK now, catching a quick nap nearby. :)

After noon Sandy...Oh would have liked walking here this morning..a whopping 45 degrees a little bit of sleet, rain and high winds...Geesh...I didn't go gray..just couldn't do it..When my mother passed...I got all the pictures I painted her over the years..one I did in colored Charcoal..of an indian lady wrapped in a blanket..she had it in her living room right across from her recliner...she loved that...Hope your collie is doing well..My sister took her pitbull out for for his potty time and when she got him in the house his face was all swelled up..she took him to the vet and they kept him over night..so its good your keeping and I on him...they said he would have died as his throat was swelling...scared them really bad...Hugs...:O)

Great job on getting a 3-mile walk in. That's great. Have a good day sorting through things. Glad your fur-baby is ok!

3.1, well...lets just call that 5K, as in 5K a day to keep the doctor away. We both were wearing earbands, it was 28 & windy Wednesday morning, with a heatwave of 34 & windy this morning...another earband day. I was noticing that is is so much harder to stay warm walking than it is if we run, guess I should have worn a warmer jacket. Hope your collie boy woke up from his nap with no ill effects from whatever creepy/crawley bug he ate. Going through mom's stuff must bring lots of memories to surface...lots of hugs for you!

Bren, what happened to your sister's dog is exactly what I was fearing for my Collie boy. Ages ago, my first dog, a Border Collie mix, got stung on her nose and it swelled up to the size of a softball!! Didn't know anything was amiss until we heard her wheezing....and then we saw all that swelling! OMG, your heart just about stops. Glad the vet can take care of your sister's dog until he gets better...sounds like she got a real scare there.

Thanks Aggie. Good thing I got the 3+ miles in Wednesday, as I only got 1.5 miles in yesterday. Still trying for the motivation to get out there and put in some miles today....I had an earlier commitment, so couldn't get out there when I usually would have gone. Hope you're having a good day.

GG, going through her things, even these little gifts I sent her, does bring up the memories. I'm holding off on going through too many photographs though...I need some time before I'll be ready to do that. On the bright side, however, I did bring back a couple of very, very vintage photos of my mom as a girl and also my grandma as an older teen or possibly young adult(just our estimate of age, here). I had never seen any of these photographs before, as they apparently came from a great-aunt's collection that was stashed away somewhere with others in the extended family. Those photographs are truly "priceless!"

You make all that sorting sound easier than it really is. I know there are memories attached to each item. You are fortunate working with the thrift store. It gives you a healthy outlet for her items to continue to be useful to others. Hope you have a nice evening.
