Happily_C's Journal, 26 Feb 20

So my doctor prescribed an appetite suppressant to help me get control of my cravings and maybe get a jump start on my weight loss. She's hoping during this time I can start some healthy habits that will last after she takes me off of the meds.🤞🙂

That could certainly work. Which habit or snack do you with to stop the most?

I binge eat. It's an embarrassing struggle I'm working on and since I can't afford therapy or even have time for it, I'm hoping this will work.

It's called phentermine.

Happilly _ it is not a magic pill. I started my health journey in Feb 18 at 5.5" 192 lbs with what I thought was an optimal weight goal of 138. Some doctor in the past when I was at that weight thought that was perfect. I saw a new primary doctor and my weight did not come up but other health issues did. I asked him for something like a jump start to get me on the right path. He prescribed the same. I took it for a month.... lost 8 obs. No more and maybe even less than if I had just addressed why I was eating what I did when I did.... phentermine will turn off the hunger switch and speed up your metabolism but if you are stuffing your face because of boredom, stress, depression, or for comfort that is what you need to address. Like I said, I took it for a month, lost 8 lbs.. but since then looking at the reasons I ate when I did I lost 32 lbs. My primary also warned me that even if it works initially... when you are off it for the majority of people the weight gain back comes back fast and furious. That makes sense.. suppress your appetite with a magic pill.... stop it and the appetite comes back. All the best to you !

Ps. A magic pill to supress appetite is not a cure. I would bet my life that no one became overwight, obese, morbidly obese because they were eating from hunger issues. You need to figure out what is causing you to eat more than your physical body needs... it could be one of many reasons of which I mentioned previously in my comment or maybe just an uneducated informed mind of the calorie load of the foods in your diet. If you are looking for a life long healthy life phentermine wont get you there.

Good for you! I am cheering you on and glad that you have your doctor’s support with this, it may be what you need personally to get you started. Everyone is different, and it may not even be the pill, but more psychological that the pill is helping ❤️ Follow what your doctor says and take it one day at a time. Be diligent about what you eat and track EVERYTHING! I will be cheering you on!

There are free groups you can attend that can help with the binge eating and help talk about why you binge eat with others who do too

Food craving is very powerful! Not unlike that of an alcoholic or even a drug user. I have used those in the distant past and they work for a while. Good luck with your effort. Losing weight isn't easy and keeping your weight off is just as hard.

Phentermine does help suppress appetite, especially if bingeing isn't psychological. If memory serves me right, it was about 20 years ago when I had a script for it. Seemed I was less hungry after a week or so then I really didn't feel like eating at all. My doctor advised me that a diet plan and exercise was still needed to lose the weight. I had to stop taking it because it increased my blood pressure and it gave me a fluttering feeling in my chest. I'm not trying to scare you...just offering a personal experience. I wish you luck and I hope it help you get over that hurdle.

I have binge eating disorder. I use mindfulness techniques to *try* to control it. It has been a battle since I was in my teens. I also crochet, read, and use the app Happy Color when I feel I want to binge. I just drew a picture of an eye on my hand to remind me that every time I binge I am hurting my eyes (Type II Diabetes). The whole thing sucks.

If you usually binge in the evening maybe taking the medication could help you not to eat after dinner. I would think that working really hard on changing one habit would be easier than too many at the same time. I hope it works out for you!

I took Phentermine with great results and no side effects. It was definitely a magic pill for me! And if my weight gets out my control, I'll do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck!

And yes, I am a binge eater too. But even now that I haven't taken Phentermine in a number of months, I feel like I'm in a better place with my relationship with food, and one binge is correctable at this point.

Thank you all for your comments of warning and especially support.💞 I understand this medicine and have used it a number of times before so I know what to expect. Its a great tool as long as you use it IN ADDITION TO making healthy choices! That's the key! 🔑 There's no point in even taking this medicine if you don't want to put in the work. In fact it's not a good idea at all.🙄
