My oldest's requested birthday meal. She has asked for it every year since she was about 8. It might look like cat food on noodles, but it was yummy! Turkey and ground beef stroganoff with mounds of mushrooms, which had been cooked down in gobs of butter with garlic.

Wow Melissa I just read the rest of this thread, thank God your daughter is OK, it’s something to go through an accident like that, I totally feel your pain because my daughter and I went through something very similar. For the exception I was driving and I passed out behind the wheel, she was in the car with me, and I crashed into a tree. Thank God we are both well, we are walking and talking. I think God every day for that blessing.

Bless your mom efforts! Every year! Must be delicious if she asks for it over and over. I don’t blame her, it looks delicious. The accident!! 🤭🤭🤭 Thank God above she is alive! Hopefully, miraculously, someday, her headaches go away! ❤️🙏❤️

Lovely! I've experienced that 'it looks like cat food' feeling from time to time on some of my dishes. IF only right? That cat food is expensive!! Haha. It looks great and you had me at 'butter'.

I'm surprised that the mothers posting in this thread consider 24 or so to be "young" for motherhood. (My mother was only 19 when she had her first, me, in 1953; she had her third, her last, two weeks after her 25th birthday.) I've read essays about the optimum time for women to have children: their 20s (good eggs, good energy for running after 'em!). Times have changed!

CAVEAT: I've never had my own children, but raised three stepchildren to adulthood (ages 4, 5, and 9 when I made the poor decision to marry their father). I was 31 and had a full-time career in full swing. I was also the breadwinner. He did little to discipline them, or himself. It was *not* easy but I believe it was where God wanted me.

Najwa Kale, Thank you for your kind words. Thank you for sharing your story. There is nothing in life so precious as our kids and seeing them suffer is the greatest heartbreak. We can understand each other and thank God for the gift of our girls.

wifey, Thank you! It is my youngest girl who has the injury. I am thankful with every fiber of my being that she is alive and I pray someday she will live without pain. Bella! I think you would like the food and I wish I could have you taste my "cat food!"

I was married at 23, had my daughter at 25, almost 25. I don’t think it was early. I was ready and eager and oh so excited. Had my son at 27. Now they’re grown up, I wish I had more. ❤️

I agree, wifey. I was eager to have my family, and have no regrets we started when we did. I had five pregnancies in 7 years, lost one, and we adopted a toddler. Probably many of our mothers started their families at 17 and 18. Mine did. Point is that it is a crazy, wild job with such enormous responsibility. I don't think anyone is completely ready. You learn as you go. In this complicated world where my oldest needs a masters degree to be marketable in her career, she is not ready to be a mother too. Times have changed.

Indeed times have changed. However, it can be done. One of my daughters profs whom we love so much, not much age difference than us, gave birth to her first daughter TWO WEEKS before completing her PhD!!! Now how’s that for motherhood. She’s so empowering. Telling girls to never forsake having children as it can be done, all while doing a PhD!!! My mom was 23 having my brother, 25 having me. My grandmothers had 11 kids on my dad’s side and 8 on my mom’s. I’m all for family. It’s wonderful!! I got married the summer before my last year in Bible school! LOL! Ohhhh fun times and great memories. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ And 5 in 7 years!! Wow!! Good for you! One of my clients had 9 in 11 years, you should have kept going Melissa! 😉😘

Love hearing these stories. I had 5 pregnancies in 5 years. I lost one too Melissa. One time Joe added up the months I had been pregnant and it wasn't encouraging. 😆 I must say, I felt the best health-wise when I was pregnant. ❤❤❤❤❤
