Hi all, I have a question about fasting and would appreciate your advice ☺️

I am not willing to do intermitted fasting since I do not want my healthy eating journey to effect my social life (going out with friends is one thing that keeps me sane at this point of my life). I am basically counting callories and eat around 1200 (bmi is 1600-1700) and try to keep carbs low if possible. I also usually start eating late in the day around noon as is.

But I am considering doing kinda fasting one day a week of my choice (probably Sundays that I do not have a plan) to shake up my metabolism (just one nice late breakfast around noon and nothing else for the rest of the day).
Do you think this will do more harm then good since I won’t do it on schedule or probably not even every week? Or will it help?

I have been so many diets my whole life, lost and gained again, and mostly just struggled without proper loss.. I feel like I do not know what works for body and not..

You been in so many diet, why don’t you just just not focus on losing weight but on learning to eat appropriately for your sex, activity level and height?

yes, Rosio is right. It is an insane thing to make yourself go on all these crazy diet stuff. Doesn't work. Been there, done that. Eat healthy, portion control and enjoy.

I agree with all the above which is very sound advice - change your WOE not go for another diet, and to be honest 1200 is low intake if you stick to that every day. If you wanted a shake up maybe try 5:2 for a while. This means you eat closer to your RDI 5 days a week and on 2 days you eat around 300-500 calories. Its not IF, but it can shake up your metabolism as you are not constantly on the low calorie intake you are doing now, which can lead to plateaus. So you could get that with an omelet with veg and a salad or some fruit on days when you eat low-cal. And always go with whole food options, no -refined sugar or soy processed stuff. Good luck x.

I don't see much harm in doing a 24 hour fast but don't undereat too much on average since that is NOT the way to shake up metabolism.

Thanks a lot for all the valuable advice! I usually get full on 1200 kcals since I am not really active, working sitting all day.. But yesterday I went to the gym for the first time in many years and I will stick to it, 3-4 times a week I am hoping. I guess I will increase my calorie intake to average 1400 daily for now and try callorie cycling similar to @Bandrai’s suggestion..
