Llamapalooza53's Journal, 30 Mar 19

I slept until 9:00. Felt good but I'm up now, fed dogs, listening to the ShihTzu at the front security door barking for no reason at all! I'm having a cup of coffee and then taking them for a walk. I've created a new route in my head, in my neighborhood, adding a leg to the walk which might net me a mile. We'll see.

The scale hasn't budged. I keep thinking I'm doing everything right but I apparently am not. I have a medical marijuana card and I ONLY take 1/2 of a 100 mg gummie at night, for sleep. Last night though, I didn't know where the scissors were when I was ready to take one, so I ate the whole thing.

I didn't go to sleep right away though and I got the munchies so I ate MORE of my stuffed mushrooms, two more cheese sticks and some olives. I went way over my carbs and even calories. So I feel really guilty about that. I usually eat the half and then I'm off to sleep in 10-15 minutes with my C-Pap mask on. Out like a light. I guess I was probably watching something that made me stay awake longer.

So, that's like ONE mess up. Really. Since starting in January (?) I think it was? I don't know at this point whether I should switch my diet to something else, counting calories only, or try to stick with keto. I should've lost at least 20 pounds by now. I've tried to persevere on this but I mean, there is just something wrong.

I guess I just do not know how to keep my carbs at 20 and under. I'm very very unsuccessful at that. I'm going to take my walk with the dogs and come back and find Dr. Berry's first keto YouTube videos. I think there's also a discussion place on his videos. I am truly discouraged today. I've got all the right stuff in the fridge, but not all the right stuff in my head I guess. I'm feeling down right now. Like all this is for nothing.

It won't do you any good to beat yourself up. Just recommit - it's a new day! I wasn't losing any weight even though I stuck to my carbs and I finally realized I was eating too many calories. The only way I was able to stay on track was to write the food down in the food journal. When you weigh and measure everything you put in your mouth instead of eyeballing it, you realize how much you are overeating. Ever since I have done this the weight is coming off, which you can see from my weight chart. All I did was weigh, measure, record. Then at the end of the day when I want more to eat the food journal tells the answer - no, out of calories or not that you are out of carbs! You can do it!

Try melatonin, 3 mg about 1/2 hour before bedtime - no munchies, no carbs! I am a slow loser too; my best way to break a stall is to use the Atkins Fat Fast: 4 or 5 small, very high fat "feedings" totalling 250 calories, 90% fat, and as close to zero carbs as I can get. Three days of that usually gets me back to losing. Or: Chicken thighs, with skin; each one is about 150 calories; 4 or 5 spaced out through the day; plain water, black coffee or tea to drink.

I do daily write my meals into this FS app. I just walked this morning and will walk again in a bit. Is it possible I’m not getting enough salt? I’m not a salt person although since I started cooking for myself again, on keto, I’ve been salting whatever food I’m cooking. Your support is so welcome and appreciated. That support from this site, is what keeps me going...

Gx9gig: Melatonin doesn’t affect me at all. I’ve been in Oxycodone for years and years (off now for several months) and it seems like nothing is strong enough for sleep. The med marijuana gummies knock me out.

Have you tried to eat a little bit more? I know it sounds counter productive but body is a funny thing. It may close down its fat burning if you do not feed it adequate amounts. Hang in there

I looked at what you are eating and it looks to me like you are getting really good with the carbs. You can try one of those "tricks" that Gz9 mentions. There is also something called butter and beef fast that some people use for 3 days to move things along

Liv011 Someone else told me about eating more so I upped my calories by 200 a day. It’s good to know you think I’m managing my carbs better. It’s really hard to stay under 20 tho.

Llamapalooza, the blue light waves that electronic screens emit stimulate the brain and keep human beings awake. To help with sleep, try turning off all electronic devices at least an hour before you go to bed. If that doesn't work, increase your "screenless lead time" so that, eventually, you "go screenless" at least two hours before bedtime. That works better for me than melatonin.

I like that closing remark: It's what's in our heads, not what's in our fridge, that really matters!
