Sandy701's Journal, 19 Nov 12

It's an unusual Monday for me, as DH is at work, and not home as he's been on Mondays lately. So I'm trying to get a lot of chores done and plan out how to fit all the cooking, shopping, and holiday prep into these next few days.

I took the doggies out for a 3.1-mile walk this AM; Lab gal along for just 2.4 miles. There's a lot of demolition work going on nearby and she doesn't like all the big booms....just wants to head for home PRONTO! Smart gal, but it makes for a non-leisurely walk at times. My Collie is unphased.

My T'giving grocery shopping got done Saturday afternoon, after working on the T'Giving food basket giveaway and Angel Tree set-up in the morning. My 'frig is busting at the seams right now, with all the fresh ingredients plus a thawing turkey. We used to have an extra freezer, but sold it when we moved here. I could really use it....or another 'frig....at times like these. Unfortunately, our climate isn't cold enough to store things outside, either. We've used that trick when living in colder places.

Funny thing at the grocery store....a checkout monitor came by and noticed what I had in my cart, remarking that it was great I had so many veggies! It really did seem like most of what I bought this week came from the Produce Dept.

In addition to work around the house today, I also did some online shopping for Christmas. I even found a site that was giving a 20% discount, even off sale prices, just for today. I know a lot of retailers run some really nice specials in these couple of days right before Thanksgiving that are every bit as good as those right after Thanksgiving. It's typically a slower time, as a lot of people wait until after TG, thinking that the best deals come up then. In some places, that may be true, but I've seen an awful lot of great deals right in these 3 days leading up to the holiday.

Well, enough prattle. This isn't getting my work done, so I'd better get to it!

HI ya Sandy...I use the great outdoors in the winter to cool off some foods before putting in the frig...it works wonders...and I'm not afraid it will go bad..as its colder out side than in the frig..I love a good bargain..hoping to find some Friday or Saturday..Catch you later...:O)

Moving to cold country has some advantages in the winter and summer for that matter. The water from the faucet is ALWAYS cold and delicious (Lake Michigan has the best tasting water in the USA). Also using the work bench in the garage as the cooling counter for cookies. Groceries can stay in the car between stores...and so on! Let's stick together and eat our Thanksgiving veggies and get slimmer!

Sounds like you used your time wisely - don't know how you manage to get everything done! I can just picture your poor refrigerator moaning and groaning. No one has ever complimented me on the contents of my cart before but I've had more than one perplexed cashier trying to find the right code for my produce. BTW - in Florida are they carts or buggies?

Good job getting your Christmas shopping started, Sandy. And fantastic about your grocery cart. Well done. Sounds like you've made a lifestyle change. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Hey Sandy sounds like you have kicked things into high gear and the rest of us better get going! :) One of the benefits of living in WA state versus GA is that I can put things in the garage to cool off and not worry. It is nice to have Thanksgiving shopping done. I am done and getting busy today with my pre-cooking. I hope y'all have a great Holiday.
