Sandy701's Journal, 01 Nov 12

Walked 2.6 miles this AM with the doggies. It was a beautiful, sunny but cool day, so just perfect for walking ANY distance.

Today I'm thankful for the beautiful weather and the physical ability to walk pretty much whatever distance I want.

Part of the new challenge Go Hard or Go Home is to consider what I'm thankful for. Although I won't detail it every day, I AM thankful for my DH, my family, my health, this country and its freedoms.

The other part of the challenge is to limit calories which will be 1400, with some possible allowance over Thanksgiving and Christmas. No, they will not be all-out, off-plan days, every day, but I will be taking some liberties even though I will be staying low-carb with my holiday meals. While my general target for calories is 1300, I don't sweat it if I'm over by 10, 25, or something similar. Staying in the 1200's is hard for me and can produce nagging hunger on some days that can lead to overeating....even low-carb! So, if I can stay in the 1200's, great, but if I go slightly over 1300, that's fine too.

Now, for anyone new who might read this....my concern with calories and my level of calories should NOT be used as a plan by anyone other than me. I've mentioned this before, but I will repeat that these adjustments are part of what I've learned about my own body and metabolism over these past 2+ years doing low-carb. These items work for me but are NOT recommendations for anyone else. Follow the Atkins plan as laid out in the book and, once well along in your journey, you can tweak according to what works for you personally.

I like that positive vibe today - "the ability to walk any distance you want". Walking Queen! I have to chuckle at your disclaimer. However, the more I read the more I see examples of others who lost great at first, but find themselves working on their final pounds and needing to lower calories. Or maybe it is just the nature of a natural born glutton (like myself) who could eat herself into a coma while staying under 20 grams/day. Because I count calories I am forced to learn portion control and self restraint - tools that will help me life long.

PS - I forgot to include that the whole reason I wrote (the above) is to remind you that you have so much to offer. You should not be afraid to recommend your self control and dedication to exercise to others.

Hey...so glad you are totally motivated, sounds good to hear you. I have to say, in all honesty, I am so glad you included the part about how these are Your Goals & these numbers you strive for are for You & what you have learned works for you. I feel your pain at the 1200 level, & truth be told I do worry about you at 1300-1400, mosstly because I KNOW how hard that is, especially with the level of physical activity you maintain. Once again, I am so proud of you!!
