Sandy701's Journal, 27 Sep 12

Just 1.5 miles walked with the doggies this morning. For an unknown reason, my thighs are sore....have been for a day or so. I decided to come back to the house and go into the pool for some dedicated lap swimming to make up for the mileage I wasn't doing on the walk.

I discovered I'm swimming slower than I thought and that I'm not as conditioned to lap swimming as I was a couple years ago. I had pretty much given up swimming laps because this pool is a shorter pool (30') so a lot of my time is spent in turns. I swam 60 laps but that's only about a third of a mile. I used to swim a half-mile minimum and often went longer, so, if this were the beginning of the summer instead of impending-fall, I'd make it a point to try to condition myself to get back into that kind of mileage. But, with swim season just about over, there's not much I can do 'til next year. Right now, we're running the heater just about all the time and that will have to stop shortly or we'll go bankrupt with the electric bills!!

Well, I'm glad the Packers "loss" wasn't in vain....the NFL and the referees' union reached a tentative settlement and the real NFL referees are coming back! Even as early as tonight, according to one report. Wished it would have happened a week ago. I wish the replacement refs all the best....they did the best they could, but it was like asking a first-year med student to do brain surgery after a few online training courses.

So sorry to hear your legs are sore..but I am sure the swim in the pool was good for them..and a lot less stress..We already had to turn on the heat in the house...its been quite chilly only in the high 60's and low 70's.....I'm glad that came to an agreement..that has to be frustrating to watch the newbies try to call the shots...Enjoy your evening..:O)

I though of you first thing when I heard the news! As for your thighs, I wonder if you did something while painting? Hope you get over that ASAP - and so do the doggies.

Bren, those were my thoughts....do some swimming to take the weight-bearing stress off my legs. Have a great day!

Buffy, I think it may be from being on the ladder so much. Years ago, we had a painter that had to take the next day off after he spent the day washing and cleaning the exterior of our house, being on the ladder the entire day. The next day he called and said his legs were killing him! It may be that my thigh muscles are being constantly worked, keeping balance on a stepladder, and it just wears them out.....again, just a theory. They're not exactly injured - just feels better not standing! LOL!

Sandy, yes, probably the painting is the culprit for your sore thighs, good excuse to get some laps in. Do the pups swim laps with you? You know I heard that the refs have a tentative agreement, what I haven't heard is just how much did those guys make, what were they asking for that they couldn't get? Second thought, maybe don't tell me...I have huge issues with how much money is paid for some sports athletes.

Sandy I'm in agreement that your soreness is from excess "ladder work"... that's why I don't paint anymore. Take it easy in the pool.

GG, I understand that the pension issue was the real bone of contention. For the salary those guys get, I sure wouldn't mind running around in a zebra shirt! As for the pups swimming.....my Collie is just a lounge-around-in-the-shallow-end... kind of guy, although, to be fair, I haven't encouraged him to swim. He's such a physical play dog that I was afraid he'd try to do that with my Lab in the pool and end up drowning them both! My Lab absolutely WILL swim laps with me....usually have to put her inside after awhile, as she thinks she needs to "rescue" me if she's out of the pool and I'm getting close to where she is. Nothing like having a Lab nearly land on your head in the water!

Notfast, I probably should give up this kind of painting too, but DH was pretty lukewarm about hiring out this job....darn! :)

That's a "lounging around in the shallow end" kind of guy. Not sure why I can't change it, even with copying, deleting the comment, correcting it, and then reposting. Oh well.
