cannboys's Journal, 05 Oct 18

More than a year after starting to research user needs, several months of design and build, we've finally started to roll out a premium offering on FatSecret.

Android is slowly rolling out now, with iOS to come in a few weeks. Well done team. #fatsecret #weightloss #calories

love your work. the whole team, you guys literally save/extend lives. weight loss starts and end in the kitchen. you arm people with the knowledge needed to make smart informed decisions. once I lost the weight, the fitness bug bit me hard. it's a team effort and I have a great team👍

hi there, can you guys improve the functionality of Recently Eaten and Most Eaten lists? currently the items disappear by time settings, I guess. This is extremely inconvenient, as most of the times people eat the same things within a week or two. It would be much better if items added to those list stay there until manually deleted by the user. Or perhaps offer two options, either items removed automatically, either manually. Thanks.

Thanks Keith - we share stories like yours in HQ on a regular basis to keep us motivated and focussed :)

@vs_model we are actually looking at a new search experience next year. If you’re interested in contributing some thoughts, let us know. 😀

Right... I thought, you are collecting good ideas any time, that's why I already contributed my thought 😊

Lol - yes we are, but I meant a more in depth conversation with our team. We’re actually working on design and discovery now - next year is for the build.

Hola! Gracias 😀

As a web developer I can appreciate all the work that it takes to keep this site running. Great job! I love this site! Glad you will a 'premium' (paid) offering because I want the site to survive :)

Hola @bevigabi Podemos ver un control más preciso sobre el contenido que ve en el feed en una fecha posterior. Por ahora, puedes configurarlo para que solo muestre a las personas que estás siguiendo.

Thanks @adefwebserver - we're hoping premium will not only just keep us going, but allow us to deliver some really valuable improvements :)

Will we be able to block people if they are annoying or trolls?
05 Oct 18 by member: 00Marx00
I'm gonna chime in with Marx - yes! May we please have a blocking feature? (I like to keep the feed on "everyone", but there's a few of the everyone I'd be happy not to see the post from. :)

please GIVE US BLOCK FEATURE. the worst feature here is when you force people I don't follow , show up in my following feed just because someone I'm following commented it supported a post of someone I NEVER EVER want to see. 😂

In relation to a block feature, we're reluctant to go down that road. If you look at the platforms that have it (twitter, facebook et al), there's something about them that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. In many ways they are anti-social, social platforms, and part of that is because they allow people to be disrespectful, and just block each other when it gets too much, rather than expecting them to be civil from the outset. We agree that blocking someone who is annoying or saying things that are inflamatory, or spamalicious, is a remarkably easy thing to do. But it trains us to engage in behaviour that is not conducive to functioning as a civil being. When it comes to managing weight loss, being able to deal with obstacles and adversity is quite important for getting through to the good times. We can't block cravings, we have to learn to live with them, work through them, and ultimately ignore them. Dealing with other challenges should be the same. What we ARE looking at, is dealing with trolls and flamers by way of a time-out/sin bin system that might force some quiet time on those who are being belligerent. We're open to ideas from our users, but more importantly we're looking to understand the problems people think this would solve. For the most part it sounds like it's either people posting content others don't want to see, or people with no relationship to them are popping up in their community feeds... The prior comments on this topic provide some useful insights: 1. Not wanting to see content showing up from people who are not directly connected to me 2. being able to up or down vote content (or just filter out irrelevant content). Our community feed is pretty basic. When we made it more prominent in the app last year we really didn't do anything to enhance how it works. Now that it's much more prominent, we're probably reaching a point where we need to make the filtering better.

...Damn, we also need to do better formatting on comments on the website. That long post had multiple paragraphs.
05 Oct 18 by member: cannboys
You should hit "enter" once in a blue moon to break it on to paragraphs 😄
05 Oct 18 by member: VS_model
Well...I am using Android app And as long as you make paragraphs, it works 😊
