I just returned from two months living on my boat on the west coast and am pleased to see I dropped ten pounds without trying.
During that time, I did not diet, but my tastes in foods have changed over time. Lately, I eat mostly vegetarian with some fish and chicken. I eat fewer eggs and avoid processed foods with emulsifiers and preservatives and refined starches and sweets. I usually eat alone, so am not tempted by the junk most people call food these days.
Specifically, I have been eating slow-cooked steel-cut oats with raisins and no milk or sugar and vegetable stews made with various beans chopped vegetables, cabbage, carrots, onion, corn, peppers, etc. I quit using purchased broths as a base after I discovered what they contain and instead use a bulk bin multi-bean soup mix as a base.
I generally avoid restaurants since there is very little offered on the menu that is not highly processed ingredients. Even salads are made with unnatural ingredients if I use the dressings.
Living on a boat means moving around more than on land and I was walking anywhere from 1,500 to 9,000 steps a day (if I can believe Google Fit).
I still drink too much and do go to restaurants on occasion, but whatever I am doing, it seems to be working for me.
