MY 60-DAY LIQUID FAST
Counting Down To My Slim Down
Day 59/60

About two weeks before Thanksgiving this year I decided to try my first fast. It lasted 7 days. My intent was to try a fruit juice only fast but I think it was too much sugar or something because I felt foggy-headed and sick after 2 days. So, I switched to liquid protein meal replacement shakes on day 3. To my surprise I found myself not hungry and feeling rather balanced. Don't get me wrong it was weird to go all day without food. Eating is almost as automatic as breathing to me. But, I survived the whole week and didn't cheat once, not even with my crystal light candies or sugar free Twizzlers. I started that fast at 318.5 and in 7 days went down to 295.5.

Thanksgiving week was a challenge. I did not go hog wild. I ate but not like years past. I grazed through out the days on smaller amounts of food. I helped cook so I used splenda as much as possible and bought low carb ice cream. By the time I returned from a week at my sister's house grazing I was truly ready to start another fast. I felt as if I had gone back to over 310 pounds when I got home but was strangly happy to see 306.5 on the scale. For the next few days I researched all different types of fasts, all the reasons people did them, the pros and cons as well as the side effects. I saw alot of people doing different versions of a water fast and although I may incorporate a 24 hour(+/-) water fast into my routine some day for now I want to make sure I am getting vitamins, nutrients and plenty of protein. I am keeping the carbs between 20-40 grams and drinking a lot of water.

My original plan was to do a 10 day fast after Thanksgiving. I have been doing alot of reading the health benefits (lower blood pressure, reduced diabetes risk, reduced asthma symptoms) of fasting for longer periods of time if you are obese. So, I have decided to challenge myself and extend it out to 60 days. The 7 day fast seemed like a breeze to me so I'm hopeful February 1, 2011 will come quickly. I did read an inspirational blog about a girl that did a 60 day fast on water only and lost 125 pounds. I will most likely only bare to do this twice to get the weight off and I don't want it to return.

The ideal plan will be to finish this in February and see where I am. Its about pushing through and just doing it. I'm not pushing to meet some insane weight loss number on this go around. I'll go through a re-feeding process for a week on fruit only then introduce veges, soups and soft food. I hope to do a modified version of this fast starting March 1st. Depends on how I feel on this. My only rule is that if I do not feel well, dizzy, etc. I'll come off and eat something solid.

I'll post on my progress and how I'm feeling...
