shirfleur 1's Journal, 19 Dec 23

My son's bookkeeper is ill & will be out for a while, so I'm going to Louisiana to help him out until she can go back to work. This is the business his dad & I started 60 years ago. I'm not sure how this will impact my recording meals or weighing in, but I will stay in touch. This could be quite an adventure.

Merry Christmas, Princess. He's not sure whether he's lucky or not, we've never worked together there before and I think he's a little concerned about how opinionated I may be about everything. On my part, I'm pretty sure I'll have to bite my tongue a bit. But, hopefully, it will be a good experience for both of us; we do love and respect each other very much.

Good for you to help out! Maybe meal prep some soup or easy meals for the work week if possible to take in each day when you get there.

I'm going to be staying with my former sister-in-law, so meal prep won't be a problem.

I could definitely see some head butting occurring but ultimately it will be pretty cool too see up close how your son has continued the legacy of what you created . good luck

Campingcar, I love Louisiana and the Acadian culture I grew up with, and I considered going back there when I retired. But I've lived in Houston for over thirty years, and this is where my friends are now and I love this multi-cultural city too. So, I visit Louisiana, but Houston is my Home.

When will you retire?🤗

otb, I am going to try to interact with him as a colleague rather than as a mother (he is after all, 56 years old) and we do talk about his business often, but yes, I am looking forward to seeing it from the inside.

Shir-so funny he is 56 but i bet you still see the 5 year old looking back at you at times? My baby is 34 and i still see the little kid who would run thru the house and throw herself into my arms when i would return from work or school🥰. Big takeaway is that you are never ever too old to have mommy make things better (or daddy). Hope you send some Louisiana pictures. Ive always wanted to visit there. Will you be there for Xmas?

It's true YOH, I fall right back into Mommy mode as soon as I get together with them, we laugh about that all the time. I'm leaving Thursday for Louisiana, trying to beat the bad weather that begins Friday. I'll spend Christmas with my son & his family, then move to my sister-in-law's on Tuesday. After that, we'll see how it goes.

Campingcar, that's funny! I retired in 2010, but my son's stepmom tells me she & my ex-husband think this woman is stealing from my son. According to her, the books are months behind schedule and everything is a big mess. So, I'm going to straighten it all out, bring it up to date, & set up some internal controls to make theft more difficult in the future. I'm neither a detective nor an auditor, so not sure I'll know if there's been any misconduct in the past. My son is quite fond of this employee, so I'm hoping everything is on the up & up.
