Hippymom's Journal, 14 Jan 18

I started keto Wednesday, so I just finished day 5. I went out to eat with a friend and had to plan my entire day around being able to eat out. I had veggie fajitas with no tortilla and I smothered it with the dipping cheese sauce. Added a tiny bit of Sour cream, quac, and salsa. YUM!! I did go over my limit 1.5G of my 30g daily goal. Keto is hard for me since I'm a vegetarian and I don't have many carb free options like a meat eater would have but I feel so much better. I never got keto flu thank goodness.(I was scared of that) I have energy to match my 8 year old. One thing I wasn't expecting is the fullness effect. After day two(Day to was tough) I haven't been hungry between meals, and my meals are very filling even though they are very small. I am having a bit of trouble sleeping though. Going to sleep isn't the issue but staying asleep is. I think I will start to exercise next week and get up earlier than normal to see if that will help me sleep more sound. Oh and I lost 3 pounds in my first 5 days so that is just what I needed to keep me on track!

Congratulations!!! I can only imagine how hard it is to make vegetarian keto, you must have a lot of creativity 😁. With respect to sleep, the first month I started to sleep better and fewer hours in total. I think that in the second month I got used to my new sleep cycle. probably when you make keto vegetarian there should be some differences but in general I think that the body always finds a balance whether vegetarian or normal keto 👍

For me the absolute biggest benefit of keto or low carb is not feeling hungry or having cravings. That is the main reason this way of eating is easy to stick to. You don't have to obsess about your next meal. The second thing is the energy level. We are so used to being tired all the time that the increased energy level is just so wonderful. To help with getting enough sleep I make sure to not eat anything for at least three hours before bed. I only drink water or green tea in the evening. I take my shower at night. I make sure my room is nice and dark and cool. I drink a cup of green tea after my shower and go to sleep. I set an alarm for 8 hours later and I get up. I never nap during the day. I exercise 6 days a week and try to get close to 10,000 steps in on top of that. I use a fitness tracker to track my activity. These steps help me sleep really well.
