Wow, it's been a while. Fast forward a year and a half later, I gained about 20 lbs! I am now 5 lbs heavier than when I first started (180 lbs now vs. 175 lbs before).

Basically, my low-carb diet ended up being unsustainable long-term for me. I shouldn't have gone back on binging on sugary crap in the first place, but it made no sense trying to adopt a new diet involving replacing an entire food group with tons of supplements.

Besides, my previous weight loss had no added value on my blood pressure. Instead of lowering it, my diet made it higher, and I had to take extra medication to maintain it! Ironically, the lowest blood pressure measure taken in a doctor's office I had for a while was taken after I gained back my weight.

However, my BMI is hovering too close to obesity (29.4), and my belly looks too big to my taste and feels heavy at times. This can't be good for my overall health, notwithstanding my hypertension.

Whether I feel like it or not, and despite the fact that people think I look like a kid, I am not getting any younger (I am turning 42 in March) and I need to lose some weight before menopause hits! I need a diet that will become my "new normal", though, one that involves smaller portions and less refined sugar, but eating normally and not cutting out an entire food group!

I thought about simply eliminating sugar and not changing much else, but I tend to eat too many nuts (and sugary dried fruit) with my oatmeal and put too much cheese and bacon in my scrambled eggs. I decided to try out Weight Watchers to help with portion control. I will test-drive this system and hope that it is not too restrictive. I can only eat 23 points per day, and I feel that fat is heavily penalized (but then the point system is a calorie-based calculation, so it makes perfect sense). At least it is protein-friendly.

Oh well, wish me luck!
