kikikranx's Journal, 03 Dec 15

Well ... the lack of cookies didn't bother me so much last night. Bread, tortillas, chips, hot pockets and most other processed foods were never kept in my house so gave those up years ago. No battles with sodas, juices and other sweet drinks cuz I gave those up before also. I mostly shop the edges of the store except for spices .. gotta go down an aisle for those .. and COOKIES .. lol .. of course those were down an aisle. Yup . cookies and milk were definitely the culprits. I've been playing with that calorie journal and it's definitely the carbs from cookies/milk that got me here.

I discovered yesterday that I can have CHOCOLATE in very small amounts. But since I'm low carb/hi fatting it (LCHF) I was kinda bummed to be having to give up chocolate (the main reason for my CHOCOLATE chip cookie addiction). Seems I can have my "cake" and eat it too on this one cuz the dark choc that I LUV falls into this diet --but only in small amounts. This may be my saving grace :-)

I am sort of worried about losing weight too fast. I know that instant obedience = instant blessings -- and I am being extremely strict while learning LCHF -- but is it really healthy to lose 7ish lbs in 5days?? For the moment I'm chalking this up to the loss of 'water weight" AND the loss of gas/bloating.

Think of a propane tank .. when you buy the refill it's alot heavier than the empty tank you bring in for exchange. So yes ... GAS has MASS (weight) and that's prolly got something to do with it as well. I'm keeping an eye on this because I never signed up to be on a fast track/too good to be true kind of diet. I decided to do LCHF as a lifestyle change because after much research it just made sense to me.

Who else is LCHFing it? Is this the norm? or should I add a little more carbs? Any pointers from long-time-LCHF-ers would be greatly appreciated.

About that dark chocolate ... have found that the fancy bars at Wallgreens go on special quite frequently...DH and I like the one with the orange bits. For dessert, break off as many squares as you dare ration yourself, then lay the chunk on the table. For the rest of the evening you may slowly break off tiny pieces of it to eat. Once it's gone, you're done for the evening. Seeing it lying there uneaten is a visible sign that you are doing something good for yourself. If the thing is still lying on the table in morning, put it away. It's your stash for some other time!

I buy the 85% dark chocolate from Aldi. It has 5 bars and 2 are considered a serving. I eat about 1/2 bar a week. Saves my craving and keeps me in check. Works well. Price is good too.

I use Lindt Excellence 70% for eating (1 - 3 squares depending on the rest of my food for the day), and Lindt Special Dark 90% for cooking with Liquid Stevia drops for sweetener. I make a delightful Mocha Pot de Creme with this combination. We can definitely enjoy chocolate within LCHF lifestyles.

It is perfectly safe and normal (esp when you were a cookie monster...lol) to lose weight that quickly when doing LC. Believe me, it will slow down. LC is a natural diuretic and high carb causes water retention. See the reasoning? Lots of people coming from refined carb diets are inflamed with massive amounts of water weight. I lost 23 lbs in the first month while not starving myself at all! Being that you are losing water so fast, you will need to increase sodium intake by 1-2 grams so that you don't dehydrate (salt is only bad when mixed with high carbs). You will need a good magnesium and calcium supplement also. Most people are magnesium deficient no matter what plan they are following, but it is especially important to take a supplement and/or get LOTS naturally. Magnesium is hard to over do, but you will know you're over ding it if you get diarrhea.

Whenever you make a big change in your life your body reacts very quickly to it and yes you dropped a lot of weight very fast but remember this when you reach that plateau and you seem like you're not losing anything for weeks it all balances out in the end because at some point your body will think you can't find food and it will slow down how it burn those calories

I'm aligned with what Jenny has written, weight will drop fast, and can continue, depending on how much you have to lose, it slows down eventually. Why would you want to hold on to it longer? People are often afraid of losing weight too fast, as they typically have no maintenance plan in mind and simply balloon back up afterwards. I currently have a co-worker who was at 10lbs a week loss for 8 weeks, and has slowed down to 3-5lbs per week since. http://www.amazon.com/Foods-Magnesium-Potassium-Aspartate-Capsules/dp/B001F0QW88/ref=sr_1_2?srs=8212819011&ie=UTF8&qid=1449160330&sr=8-2&keywords=magnesium+potassium+taurine+now

lol mahjohn .. i'm not wanting to hold onto it longer .. i've just never had this good of results except on very unhealthy "diets" of recreational substances that cause you to lose your appetite for long periods of time ;-) I know for a fact that that fast weight loss under those conditions can cause gallstones/kidney stones and other unpleasantness. That's why I wanted to hear from some of you that have experience with this. I don't wanna blow a gasket or anything and wind up useless while I recover. lol ... I feel better knowing that more than one of you have basically the same thing to say. Now I won't be so paranoid about having a coronary with my bacon and eggs in the morning.

@kiki, make sure to drink lots of water to flush ketones and calcium deposits from the urinary track to prevent UT problems. No worries, you will begin to crave it. I used to HATE water with a passion, now I drink it straight from the faucet. According to new research and science, LCHF is actually quite heart healthy. Hope you have a great day!

High Fat diets have always been Heart Health, it was the ego of one man that wrecked it for everyone...Ancel Keys. (like Voldemort, he who shall not be named....)
