Diea's Journal, 29 Jul 15

I just spent the last two weeks traveling abroad across multiple cities and eating delicacies that cannot be found in the United States. I wouldn't have been surprised if I had gained twenty pounds. It was hard to workout given that I was staying at different hotels so many nights and was always on the go. However, I did manage to work out four or five times. I also swam in a couple of beaches during my travels. Fitness was limited but a bit consistent.

Anyway, I'm not surpassed that I gained 3.5 pounds. Honestly, it seems kind of low given that it's pretty improbable to sustain a vegan diet while traveling. I was more so a vegetarian. There were many, many times when I had to look the other way and leave my vegan ways to try new dishes I'd never heard of. 2.5 pounds for two weeks of adventure and paradise? I'll definitely take it!!! I'm hoping I can get back to health and fitness before classes start up again in the Fall.

Are you curious where I traveled to? I went to the state of Nayarit in Mexico. It's a riviera. From there, we trailed to two neighboring states as well. My favorite parts were Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Guadalajara, Tequila, La Tovara, and two little beaches. One was called Chalaca or Chacala and it was just paradise. The water looked sky blue and clear. It was amazing! The other was called Sayulita. That community was alive with color, art, massages places, and surfers. It's a huge surfing destination and many people there spoke English. I loved it. We went to so many other places as well, but those were by far the best. My favorite delicacies were jericalla (a desert gelatin-like substance), jugo de caña (sugarcane juice), fried corn tamale, salty gorditas with veggies on top, and diced pineapple form the plant used to make tequila and agave syrup. Mmmm!!! If you had tasted these, you too would be okay with gaining weight!!!

Thirty years ago, the riviera in Nayarit, Mexico was not really a tourist destination. Only hollywood celebrities would go. Now, the Mexican government has invested in the area and the area is very tourist-friendly. If you had to go to at least one place, I would highly recommend Puerto Vallarta (not Nuevo Vallarta). It was breath taking.
