Sorry it's been so long since I posted a journal entry. Things have been quite crazy here.

I totaled my Toyota Prius July 6th. It rolled over 4 times and I am very lucky to be alive. It landed on its wheels or I wouldn't be. Brakes failed in a hairpin turn coming off the expressway. But I was very fortunate - no broken bones or major injuries , I did have my seat belt on, thank goodness.

Then the next week I broke a bone in my left foot. What a klutz.

Then the next week I had spinal fusion surgery. I am batting 3 for 3 so far, but am recovering nicely from the surgery.

I have found out I am lactose intolerant - just found this out before my surgery, but forgot to tell them I have been on a low sodium diet prior to the surgery. It took me a week to take off the water weight gain from the salt that was in the hospital food - yikes.

Anyway, haven't been able to exercise much, but it seems my low sodium diet is still working well, as I have continued to lose weight even though I can't exercise much.

i am sticking to about 1200 mg of sodium a day or less and a diabetic diet (since I am type II) My diabetes in well under control.

Now I am also trying to quite the cancer sticks, but as my friend Ox Drover says "There is no try, there is only do." So I am doing it, and I know it will help my back surgery recovery tremendously plus my pocket book.

Advice to those out there who are trying to lose weight, a lot or a little - don't give up. It takes perserverance, exercise (even if all you can do is walk every day or ride a bike), and a little will power.

But one thing i have learned (as I have been over weight all of my life), if you are having a terrible craving - like for chocolate - it is better to eat 8 or 9 hershey's kisses and quench that craving, then give the rest of the bag away, than to try to fight it and go crazy when the craving gets to be too much and have 2 or three candy bars or more. eight or 9 hershey's kisses are only 140 or so calories 3 or 4 candy bars are over 1000 calories - which is worse?
