Windy Day's Journal, 07 Apr 24

Good Sunday morning all. No breakfast photo this AM. Just my go-to *old faithful* yogurt, bran cereal, apple, so pretty sure y'all have seen that more times than necessary anyhow, LOL. Looking forward to tomorrow, its supposed to make it into the 70s and be sunny and daughters coming for a visit too, so I'm stoked to spend a nice day with them and maybe catch a glimpse of the eclipse. Got our glasses. Traveled to the patch of totality in 2017 and that was enough for me. Spent 8 hours in deadlocked traffic. I can only imagine what traffic will be like this time with all the hype. No thanks! Wherever you are tomorrow, hope y'all have a lovely day, and stay safe!

I am in the path of totality then and even more so now. The traffic was a nightmare in 2017. Took us hours to get home as we decided to go to our home county about 50 miles south of us. Bad decision.

Aww, so you know what it was like too! Terrible. Id never do it again. Literally parked on the highway for hours no way to get to an off ramp even! I'll watch from home

Aww I’m jealous of those that get to see totality even with the nightmare traffic, it’s one day hopefully was worth it for just once in your lifetime. I got my glasses too but we only have 35% coverage where I am. Oh well, something better than nothing.

Isn't that lovely? Wow. Thank you for the compliment Greg! I'm cooking dinner now. Will be posting pic tonight ☺️

Aww sternfan, I wish you were able to travel further towards the path at least? As much a nightmare 2017 was traffic wise, I don't regret going. It was worth it to see totality at least once. I'll see about 80-86% here if the cloud cover doesn't ruin it...

I have family who live one of the prime-view states, near a university city. It was already getting filled up with visitors this weekend; they expect 600,000 sun-scanners to visit. Good for the economy, bad for folks just trying to get to and from work!

Oh wow, Gopher... yeah I heard Texas was telling its citizens to stock up in advance on food and gas etc. We saw license plates from all over the country last time, and I bet this year will draw larger crowds!

Laughing as I write this. I was thinking about what you wrote about gridlock traffic (while in gridlock traffic). I traveled 3 hours south to get to the "band of totality" I'm glad I did, it was better than I expected. The drive home, however. I left there at 5 and spent (at least) 2+ hours inching along at the Toledo/Michigan border. Didn't get home until 11:30. I confess, I enjoyed the event so much though. Yup, I'd do it again.

Lol, yes! It was the drive home that was bad! Daughters and I only traveled 2 hours to get to the path but gridlocked for 4-5x that! Eventually made it to an off ramp about 1am to a Denny's. They were out of everything but pancakes lol and we were glad for them! ☕Glad you made the trip and safely home, Mikie. It is definitely worth it at least once. I might even go again, but better prepared next time! 🤗
