Very negligible loss. I'll take it!

I had my usual appointment to the optometrist I have every other year. I thought I was getting age-related farsightedness, as I have been having trouble reading small characters at a close distance since my last visit in 2019. I was told instead that I have high eye pressure -- which usually becomes glaucoma. I was devastated.

I am supposed to take a follow-up appointment in about 3 months. I don't have observable damage to my eyes now, but in 3 months it may happen.

What is frustrating is that by googling, I learned that high eye pressure is almost irreversible, turns into glaucoma without symptoms and that glaucoma makes one blind. I also learned that black people are more likely to have this disease. Another "black person" disease that I have (and I am black by the way).

I have asked my optometrist (and the previous one I had before but who has retired since) whether my hypertension can be linked to glaucoma or high eye pressure, because this is something they check at each visit. Every time I was told no. Well, according to some findings in Google (study results), turns out that they are linked! That would explain why I have high eye pressure despite having no family history of that or glaucoma.

This is frustrating and scary. I have been trying to do things better, eat better, take control of my health. It seems to backfire on me. First, hypertension, then uterine fibroid problems (that seem to be controlled for now), and now this. From what I have read, lowering eye pressure goes from difficult to impossible and glaucoma is irreversible and unstoppable. If I am alive by 50 or 60, I am afraid that I will become blind by these ages. I won't be able to work, to read, to do anything by myself if this happens. And it is frightening.

Apparently keto and low-carb diets can help reduce the risk for glaucoma and high eye pressure by a small margin, but it doesn't seem to work for me.
