59Carol's Journal, 08 May 21

I have exactly maintained my weight from last week. I did see a one pound drop one of the days last week but generally I have been holding steady. Likely something to do with my peanut snicks and snacks!

I will look at my nut choices. Fruit has been helping but the nuts are still slipping in. I have tried tea but I want something filling in those snacking moments.

We are locked down in our province- it had to happen as our numbers are ridiculously high. The nice thing for me is that my granddaughter has 'moved in' with me for at least a week to get a bit more help, structure or maybe just my famous morning oatmeal while she is online. I enjoy her company so whatever the reason it is nice to have her here.

Best of luck to you with helping your granddaughter- distance learning is rough. As a teacher, I know that we appreciate the families that are able to help keep the kids on track and engaged, as there’s only so much we can do across the screen. Not sure if this would help you, but what helps me with snacking is making tea lattes- that is, brewing my tea, and then pouring in macadamia milk or almond milk for half the cup or thermos. It gives it a heavier feel, and keeps me going for a couple of hours. Especially with the dessert teas, or even some matcha... just a thought.

FocacciaBread- that is an excellent idea about the tea. The milk would be a better way to 'spend' the calories than the amount that is in a 'small' handful of nuts! I love chai tea latte and used to have one every morning. Now I just have tea in the morning. I am lucky when I get the grandkids for school work. I taught for 35 years mostly grade 7-12. Since I was in small schools I ended up teaching all subjects with a bit less in the sciences so the kids see me as a great resource! Sometimes I have to dig deep. Right now my granddaughter is working on Biology which I never taught but took the courses in 1974! Amazing what I remember. She is in French Immersion and I did not do much in French however I do know the concepts of the core courses. She is doing both Social Studies and French Language Arts this semester which are both taught in French. I really have to puzzle through the instructions with her translating help so I know what it is that she is being asked to do! Our partnership has been working fairly well.
