moufette123's Journal, 28 Dec 19

Wow, 1.2 lb lost despite almost no change to my diet? I suppose it's because I don't eat a formal lunch these days. I didn't eat that much at my mom's for Christmas, probably because I am not the biggest turkey fan. I also did not eat the rice and potatoes -- less bloating by avoiding those. Also, my period started on Christmas Eve, so my level of appetite decreased a bit.

I made what I thought was a nice cake. It was the Swerve cake mix and I mixed both the yellow and the chocolate to make a nice marbled cake with some low-carb icing on top. I cooked it for 40-45 minutes instead of the recommended 25-30 minutes. Unfortunately the cake was not properly cooked in the middle. At least the sides were cooked! I ended up throwing away the middle for composting. Better be safe than sorry!

This morning, I put my fears aside and decided to take a measure of my blood pressure! It's been almost a year since I took it at home; I was scared of the machine, illogical I know, so I expected a high BP. However, I was surprized to notice it was that high! As high as at the doctor's office (close to 160/100)! I took a few other measurements, until I was sick and tired of taking it and it ended up at 135/84. This is still way too high considering I am taking 2 BP drugs, but it is always high when I don't take measurements often.

Part of me wonders whether it is the time to take a third BP drug. But then, my medication gets adjusted too frequently to my tastes (my BP is hard to control). I want to avoid taking too many drugs before menopause, because BP usually worsens when menopause occurs, which is why I want to avoid a hysterectomy for my fibroids.

Another part of me assumes the very high BP may be due to me being scared of the BP meter. I am usually calm until I approach the meter and strap the cuff to my arm (or when it is done at the doctor's offce). My pulse increases, and there my BP goes. When I take a measurement every other day -- or better yet, daily -- my morning BP goes down to normal BP levels because I become used to it. So this is what I plan on doing. I am not quite ready to take it in the afternoon or evenings.

After my BP "adventure", I decided to take a blood glucose measurement, assuming I still have some normality left in this body of mine. Alas, my fasting BG was sky high compared to past measurements. 6.6 mmol/L (119 mg/dL) -- this is at prediabetes levels! Hopefully it will come down a bit later in the day.

I also wish to do some exercise. I have my period right now, so my flow is too heavy for the treadmill. I still need to make it a habit though for light-flow and non-period days. I could take walks, but I hate walking in the neighbourhood (not very walk friendly due to lack of sidewalks, and others reasons I won't mention here), so I will have to move around at home.

Weather-wise, it has been abnormally warm for this past week, so we had a "gray Christmas". A bit depressing, but easier for driving. There was some major freezing rain yesterday! It started on Thursday afternoon. Good thing I was back home and did not have anywhere to go! A snowstorm is coming up on Monday though. I will still be on vacation, but I'll be stuck having to shovel! Ah, the joys of winter!

Even though I don't expect anyone to have read this long novel, happy New Year to everyone at FS!
