Diea's Journal, 07 Dec 19

In November, I struggled finding balance. After doing Whole30 (and pretty much experimenting on my body to categorically observe reactions to food types), I slowly reintroduced all the things so that no food type is prohibited from my WOE. I don't want to feel like there is a big red button I can't press; that's just enticing and distracting. So, I have been eating all the things in November. I wrote about that struggle previously, particularly with carbs since that food type seems to have a lot of control over my neurology.

In eating all the things, I have been overeating for days. My satiety signals tell me I'm full, but I just neeeeeeeed to keep eating. Intermittent Fasting (IF) has been godsent in this regard! It's providing leverage after months of meticulous nutrition-control. I feel like I am finally balancing out with IF. Yesterday was the first day I fasted a good amount (18 hrs), opened my eating window, and did not overindulge. What a relief! Honestly, I was afraid I would overeat all day again without end, and that I would be in the 220s eventually with a BMI of 40+, back to how I was before I started this weight loss journey. The fear is real, guys! I cannot express how glad I am that the overindulgence finally stopped yesterday. I swear it lasted over a week, and it wasn't just on Thanksgiving. I stuffed myself everyday for a long period of time. Lol.

So, my monthly numbers:

Last month:
November 2019
Weight 145 lbs
Body Fat 35.5%

This month:
December 2019
Weight 143.5 lbs
Body Fat 38%

Yes! I lost more weight, despite overindulgence!!! .... Or, perhaps it's because of the overindulgence? Maybe I brought my body out of a pseudo-starvation mode and it finally feels like it doesn't have to hold on to the fat. One of my podcasts mentioned recent studies about that, and there's plenty of case studies (i.e., anecdotal evidence) where individuals finally start losing weight when they begin eating more, or eating in a longer eating window (8 hours of time-restricted eating versus 3 hours of time-restricted eating). After teaching the body that their survival is not at risk by eating more than what they were used to, the weight just sheds off.

This month's weight loss is good. The body fat percentage, however, is not so good. I went from 35.5% up to 38% . (Note to self: this month you gained 2.5 pounds of fat and lost 4 pounds of muscle). Now that I have signed up for the gym, I'm certain that'll be resolved. It's okay! I know that this is a lifestyle. I started my weight loss journey almost a decade ago, and I have a lot of patience for results. The numbers are helpful, but they don't dictate my emotions anymore... at least not like before. I know I'm moving in the right direction, and I want long-term change, so patience and commitment is key.
