Diea's Journal, 06 Oct 19

This past month has been an INCREDIBLE experience for me. I did the Whole30 elimination plan for the first time in my life. Honestly, because it really helped me go through withdrawals from sugar/processed food,/alcohol/carbs, I can see myself doing it regularly from here on out. I really did "reset" my body. It gave me clarity and strength that I desperately needed. And, it put me in the kitchen! Learning to cook has been one of my life goals for a while, and this plan got me cooking on a regular basis. I learned how to meal plan - the basics, of course. And it removed the bloating I apparently had all over my upper body. My face looks so much thinner. I lost 2 inches on my waist and 1 inch on my neck, and I lost a lot more inches all over my body.

It was a serious challenge, and I did it. I made it to the other side. I feel happy about that. There were times when the withdrawals were incredibly challenging. For 2-3 days, I would get hyper-emotional and cry for no reason. It was really funny, honestly. Can you imagine being caught off guard by tears streaming down your face, a heavy burst of sadness, and not know what the heck is going on?! It's just ludicrous. But the sugar and processed foods are gone. My addiction to them is gone. I see or think of my once-favs (ice cream, cheetos, rolos chocolates, snickers, cheddar ruffles, cake, and more ice cream) and I feel in control. I have a craving, and I let it pass. Sometimes the craving only lasts the 1-2 seconds that I have the thoughts. Or, it lasts only for the moment that I pass by these processed foods in the market. And I keep going.

I highly recommend Whole 30.

Of course there are some things with this plan that I don't like. There is just so much meat! It's good, yeah. But I'm not used to eating meat everyday, multiple times a day. I'm looking forward to slowly replacing that as I hit my goal. And I sincerely, profoundly miss legumes and starchy veggies like corn. These were also off-limit in Whole30. I'm slowly doing the reintroduction phase, so I'll figure out when to add these back. I'm not in a rush, ESPECIALLY after this weigh in!

So... now to my monthly numbers:

Last month:
September 2019
Weight 156.5 lbs
Body Fat 40%

This month:
October 2019
Weight 146.5 lbs
Body Fat 35%

I lost 11 pounds of fat, and gained 1 pound of muscle with Whole30!!

Exercise?
My only workout this month: 1) walking and taking public trans to work (per usual), and 2) kitchen duty. The latter pretty took over my life. I work 10.5 hours, come home to cook/eat/clean in the kitchen, and then I go to sleep and do it all over again. Can you imagine the change I'll have as I add in pilates, cardio, and yoga back into my routine? Wow. I'm very excited.

Also, since the end of Whole30 on 9/30/2019, I've turned my intermittent fasting app back on. I've started with an easy 12 hour fast to get back in the mojo of it, and am currently moving up to 14 hours.... and then hopefully 16 hours.

Oh, happy day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
