This is not a good week food-wise. I'm being tested. On Saturday I attended a church fundraising High Tea. I tried to practise restraint by going for fruit and meat - cocktail drumsticks and meat balls. But a home-baked cookie found its way into my mouth. And three tiny vektkoek and mince goodies.

Then: today I took my daughter to a spa. It started off well with a meal I had pre-chosen: kingklip and veggies and a fruit salad. Then came the afternoon High Tea. 1 samosa filled with cheese and corn, a quarter of a savory muffin filled with spinach, a tiny cube of chocolate brownie, two tiny cubes of sausage rolls. Two thin slices of spanspek. My daughter stopped me from having another BROWNIE. I got home and ate 100g cherry tomatoes and two boiled eggs and 20g Pecan nuts for supper.

AND THEN. This Saturday is my sister's birthday party. It's a braai.

It's always a test :) and it is not about being good or bad. When I am faced with situations like this I either consciously enjoy the indulgence and make up for it later, or think of the health benefit of sticking to healthier options. It is a choice I make knowing the results of that choice. It helps me knowing I am really in control of what I put in my mouth - it is an active choice.

Thank you. I tried. But it was a party. So, a small piece of cake was had. Back on the saddle now.
