Dropping weight slightly ahead of my goal...I'll take it!! 16 weeks on Atkins = 30 pounds lost.

My husband's 30# dumbbell was buried under some stuff, so I lifted my dogs' dog food bag - which is 30# - to really let it sink in how much 30# is/was. It's amazing to feel that amount of weight and realize I'm no longer carrying it on a daily basis. My joints must be having a party! It's also pretty amazing that the human body can rid itself of that kind of weight without us realizing it. The reverse is also true, I guess, in that we can gain that much seemingly without being aware of it, too.

In the midst of being happy to lose the weight, I'm also sad, because a 30# weight loss, or even less, would have put me back at my goal weight many years ago. I still can't quite believe I've gained so much and have so much to lose. Part of setting my goal weight at 145 was because I just couldn't face trying to lose 100 pounds. Somehow, 90 pounds was easier on my psyche. Even with 90 pounds to lose as a goal, I realize that I'm (only) one-third of the way there. It's a good news/bad news kind of statistic, but I'm trying to focus on the good.

This next third of my weight loss should have me getting into Onderland by Labor Day, 190 by Halloween, and 180 by year's end; eventually getting to 175 by the end of January 2011. That would be 60 pounds lost and two-thirds of the way to my goal weight. As I approach the weights near the end of this phase, I'll be in territory I haven't visited in over 20 years. This should be interesting...
