Tried a piece of Cheri's recipe for Low Carb Cheesecake Factory cheesecake for desert last night. Very delicious, and true to its low carb billing. I had a larger than a 1/16th slice (hard to cut precicely)and bolused insulin to cover the 6g of carbs. BGs over the next hours never went up so I suspect it had even less than a 6g effect on me.
Had a hypo episode in the middle of the night and again this morning. Had to take a total of 17g of dex to get out of it. Still never went above 88mg/dl all night. Definitely too much basal. Lowered AM (Midnight to Noon) basal rate .050units/hr. Also lowered the PM (1700 to Midnight basal rate by the same. Total basal is now down to 13.050 units/24hrs on Atkins.
When I started low carb 3 weeks ago my basal rate was 22.5 units/24hrs. My average daily bolus total per day was 27.5 units for the 2 weeks prior to starrt of Atkins. For the last 2 weeks while on Atkins my daily bolus has averaged 6.98 units.
Average BG for the same periods has gone from 139 mg/dl to 104 mg/dl respectively. This works out to A1c's of 6.5% and 5.3%.
